I'm sure I'm missing something really simple but I have tunnel vision and need the pro's to help me out here...thanks guys. If you want to play around in the store with this you can at https://www.vinashcoaching.com/store You'll see tax does show up under check-out but is always $0.00 and I'm testing accounts from the same city, state and country as the store.

First of all, Glad the fires missed you.

Second, you've got two different tax rates in there. 7% and 1.25%, I think it's supposed to be 7.25%

Third, make sure you only have CA zones in there. I still had Florida floating around before I got it all straight.

Re: Can't get Tax working - California

Thanks birdoasis, was actually surrounded but safe at the beach...just horrible air quality :P

As far as the different tax rates, I'm attempting to use the mod I loaded to be a differential between state tax and local county tax. for instance there are something like 42 counties in CA and they all range from 6.5% on the low end to 8.75%. The sales and Use tax hot line in CA tells me that I can charge a cap of 7% unless the actual county tax is higher in which case I can charge the difference as well. Hence the 2 different taxes...this mod is suppose to allow for this exact situation, but either way I'd be happy with a universal 7% tax charging to all taxable goods in the store to all CA residence if I could get that going...also I got the FL on taken care of, but good suggestion as it eluded me for a while too hehe.

any other suggestions welcome.

Re: Can't get Tax working - California

The Taxes were not working for me before, but sure if you'll help me troubleshoot it I'll be happy to remove the mod...but how do I do that hehe. Can I just remove the files and go from there? I know it sucks dealing with noobs but I'm trying lol. After I get the mod off, what should I do...I know the tax reading will still be 0, based off my original post is there anything I am missing in the configuration? Thanks for the continued help and support.

Re: Can't get Tax working - California

California...I was originally going to charge 7% across the board to anyone in CA and be done with it (pay the difference myself) but then I thought how much work can it be to zone the state out...there are only 42 counties...which is why I downloaded the mod. I still don't mind doing the 7% across the board if it makes things easy...but if we can do different ones for the counties that would be great as the local tax in the state varies between counties from 6.75%-8.75%

Re: Can't get Tax working - California

I'm not familiar with the CA-county tax mod.

But setting up taxes following the FAQ is relatively straightforward:

Re: Can't get Tax working - California

How does your site differ from a fresh install of v1.3.7.1 ?

Re: Can't get Tax working - California

no, the only mod I have running is this tax one, and all the settings for it have been removed..the taxes never caculated correctly before and still are not. I now can get tax working but only if I display tax as part of the display price. What I would like to do is to have tax work but not display as part of the price in the store. Any other suggestions?

Re: Can't get Tax working - California

I'm trying to help you, but you don't seem to be doing anything with what I'm saying. You just keep repeating what you previously said.

Have you followed the FAQs mentioned?
How exactly have you configured your store?
Out of the box, if you follow the steps in the FAQ, taxes work great.
So, it seems you've mussed with something and have settings all confused.

If I were to set up a fresh install of Zen Cart, what would I have to do in order to get my store to work exactly as you're describing?

Or better yet, if you were to install another copy of Zen Cart into another folder+database, and then followed the FAQ on setting up taxes, would the same problem occur? While you're at it, list all the steps you take so they can be reviewed if you encounter problems in the end.

Re: Can't get Tax working - California

Have you followed the FAQs mentioned?
I think I have but then again there always seems to be minor differences in the interface of the admin and how the FAQ guide suggests to set things up.

How exactly have you configured your store?
Admin>Config>My Store
Country: United States
Zone: California
Store Address and Phone: (city)Manhattan Beach, CA 90266
Tax Decimal Places: (no value set)
Display Prices with Tax: false
Display Prices with Tax in Admin: false
Basis of Product Tax: Shipping
Basis of Shipping Tax: Shipping
Sales Tax Display Status: 1

**
Admin>Locations / Taxes>Zone Definitions - Taxes, Payment and Shipping**
Zone Name: Folder California
Zone Description: California

Admin>Locations / Taxes>Tax Classes
ID: 2
Tax Classes: Taxable Goods

Admin>Locations / Taxes>Tax Rates
Priority: 1
Tax Class: Taxable Goods
Zone: California
Tax Rate: 7%

Finally I still have the mod installed, but have deleted all associated admin settings under
Admin>Locations / Taxes>Local Sales Taxes

If you want me to totally delete it from the files just let me know.

Out of the box, if you follow the steps in the FAQ, taxes work great.
So, it seems you've mussed with something and have settings all confused.
I think you might be right...

If I were to set up a fresh install of Zen Cart, what would I have to do in order to get my store to work exactly as you're describing?
This is hard to ask because I wouldn't be able to retrace my steps as they have been compounding on top of each other since I loaded Zen cart and began configuration. Please reference the above question on my current configuration to see if you notice something off.

Or better yet, if you were to install another copy of Zen Cart into another folder+database, and then followed the FAQ on setting up taxes, would the same problem occur? While you're at it, list all the steps you take so they can be reviewed if you encounter problems in the end.
If need be I'll load another cart up but would prefer to hold this till then end.

Also DR. did you get my PM? It might be easier for you to check it out if you are willing too...I'm sure it's as you suspect, "something minor I've missed" so you might be able to discover it quickly by looking around. Please let me know if you are willing to and I will be in your debt if you can. I'm sure you'll be able to figure this out if you do.

Re: Can't get Tax working - California

zidain:

**
Admin>Locations / Taxes>Zone Definitions - Taxes, Payment and Shipping**
Zone Name: Folder California
Zone Description: CaliforniaWhen you click on the California zone, and then click the "Details" button, what countries+states do you have selected in there?
If you haven't selected "USA" and "California", you'll get no taxes assessed for California addresses.
Merely creating a zone definition and typing the name "California" won't link the states to the zone. You must select the applicable country+state details ... hence the instructions in the FAQ: > Go to:
Admin > Locations/Taxes > Zones Definitions > Insert

Zone Name: Colorado
Description: Colorado State Sales Tax (or whatever you like)
click on 'insert'

Click on 'Details' after creating a zone
Click on 'Insert'
Country = United States
Zone = Colorado
Click on 'insert'
