new user, and as im sure everyone is... overwhelmed...

So i've been tinkering around in the admin page doing things that I can figure out. My biggest issues so far are that I cannot figure out how to remove the currency and language choices. I do not want to have any other choices besides English and USD, so theres no point in having them there. I'm also planning on making my own template, but I have absolutely no idea on how to integrate it, the dimensions of things, or where to start. I'm fairly proficient in photoshop, so I feel confident that I could design what needed to be made, but I just dont know about sizing, and integration.

Much appreciative to anyone that could shed some light or basic recommendations to someone just getting their feet wet with zen cart.

Thanks!!

wow, all my searching around and it was really that easy.

Thanks!!

Next, I just have to figure out how to modify my template so it looks nice and I'm well on my way! Anyone with any info on that?

To create a very basic custom template (you can build from there), you need:

  • includes/languages/YOUR_TEMPLATE/english.php
  • includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/index.php
  • includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/header.php (to change the logo)
  • includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/template_info.php
  • includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/tpl_header.php
  • includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/tpl_footer.php
  • includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/images/logo.gif
  • includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/css/stylesheet.css

Anywhere you see a /classic/ folder, you can create a folder for your custom template. You can copy the necessary files from either the /classic/ folder, the /template_default/ folder or the parent folder.

Edit includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/template_info.php to give your template identifying information so you'll recognize it in the admin under tools->template selection.

I'm stuck in a similar situation too... Designed my own template, completed the slicing, can upload as a normal html site but now know nuts about implementing zen cart interface into my template...

The book does help in my understanding but it stops short of explaining on how i can apply the above...

Any tutorials available for noobs like me?

You probably made the same mistake most of us make when starting out with ZC... you've made it overly complicated.

I suggest you either follow the list I posted earlier and play around with the template system OR you download a template from the downloads section of this site and see how it's structured.

Thanks for the recommendation. Hope it's not too complicated because I'm not knowledgeable on php... sigh... :frusty:

It's very simple once you get the hang of it. You just have to remember that you're not working with HTML and you can design a template with Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro as a guideline. You'll be able to use parts of it for your site, but it's not a matter of designing an image, slicing it and then uploading it.

You'll be confused for a bit. Don't worry about it. Everyone goes through that stage.
