Re: Some possibly simple how-to questions

The ->, :: and |_ are controlled in the admin under configuration->layout settings.

Re: Some possibly simple how-to questions

Also, im having some akwardness adding products and postage costs

i have to enter the cost in USD and then it gets converted and displayed as GBP can i not just enter it as GBP?

The same with shipping, i have to enter in lbs and USD as opposed to kgs and GBP

Re: Some possibly simple how-to questions

admin->localization->currencies and set GBP as your default currency and set the rate (value) to 1.

admin->tools->developers toolkit and search for lbs (I usually use the field at the bottom of the page and set it to search both the admin and catalog. It'll give you all the instances of lbs. You can then edit the files to use any weight measurement you like. I use ounces on both sites in my sig.

The image/border issue may be addressed in the stylesheet. You'll probably have to find out the ID for the areas you want to change and separate them out in the stylesheet. If you're not already using the FireFox browswer with the web developer add-on, I suggest you get it. It'll help identify the items you need to change.

Firebug is different. I don't have any experience with it. The web developer add-on will allow you to manipulate the stylesheets (but you have to save your changes separately and upload them to the website) and display the divs and ids on the page. You can get it from the Mozilla website.
