Change background

I would like to change the back ground to my image. Can someone please let me know where I change that on the stylesheet. I know there are a couple places and I want to make sure I do it right the first time.
Thanks,
Laurie

Re: Change background

Aah - you'll never learn anything if you do it right the first time! :laugh:

Be a bit more specific - which image and where..header, footer, body, sidebox, centerbox??

Even better, as this is a visual thing, how about a url so we can see your problem?

Re: Change background

You can add your background to either body{} or #mainWrapper {} depending on the coverage area you want.

Find

body {

and add

background-image: url(../images/yourbg.gif);

Load the image file into /includes/templates/your_template/images/.

You will need to remove background-color and background-image properties from most places they occur in your stylesheet. Test as you go.

Re: Change background

I am having a similar problem. I want my image to be the background of everything. Text, boxes, products, everything. Here is my current code.

body {
color:#000000;
font:.75em/1.5 'trebuchet ms', arial, sans-serif;
background-image: url(/includes/templates/free_red/images/marble_dark.jpg);
background-repeat: repeat-x; }
margin:0 15px;
}

Any idea why it is not working? The background remains white.

Re: Change background

That's a start, but it only went behind part of the page. What and where do I change the colors to transparent so the background shows all over?

Thanks in advance

Re: Change background

Search your stylesheet for "background" and eliminate colors wherever you find them. Test each one to be sure you actually do want to eliminate it.

Re: Change background

Using FireFox's Firebug add-on is great for this kind of thing. You can go in and delete or add stylesheet code where ever you want to and see the changes right there in real time. And best of all.. you're not messing up your files tweaking to your heart's content ... You just refresh and voila! back to normal :D

I usually keep a pencil and paper handy.. and I jot down the changes that do what I want and then I go into the stylesheet and make them. Very handy!

You do realise that you can save the changes to your own harddrive and then upload if you wish?

Re: Change background

Yeah.. that's what I do when I'm ready to make the changes. But instead of trying out a hundred things when I'm not sure what part of the code controls what.. or if I just want to see how something would looks like.. and then editing a file and uploading it.. I can use Firebug to make the changes in my browser window to see if I like how they look or if I'm editing the right bit. If I don't like it, I refresh my window and try something else out. Better than backing up files.. accidentally overwriting them.. hitting undo a hundred times or restoring a backup when you upload something and don't like it.
