how to add a field to a product

Hi everyone,

I've been looking but haven't found anything yet so I thought I would post this. The easiest example of what I'm trying to do is this:

I sell rings and I need a drop down box (or something) to be able to store what size ring the people are trying to order.

Is there a way I can use attributes for this? Don't really know where to start.

thanks for your time...

Re: how to add a field to a product

That's a classic attributes function.

In Catalog > Option Names Manager, create an option name called Size, and make it dropdown.
In Option Values Manager, select Size and create values for all the sizes you will ever want to use, plus one called "Select" or whatever you want.
In Attributes Controller, add each of the sizes to the product, and also add "Select" and make that Default and Display Only.

On the product info page, you will get a dropdown labeled Size with an initial display of "Select", and the customer will not be able to add it to the cart without consciously selecting a size.

Hi Glenn,

Just wanted to catch you up on what's going on. Everything is working great! I just have a lot of records to go through and thought I better tell you how things are doing now or it will end up being a while if I don't (smile).

Thanks so much for your help... once again I learned something
