My Currency Cannot be Updated from Admin!

When I try to update the currency from my admin I am getting these errors :-

And all the values for every currency are set to zero!

How do I fix this? What does couldn't reslove host mean?

Thankyou

I too, am having this problem. Has it been resolved? So far, I have tried to dump the program entirely and reload from Godaddy and still have the same problem. Can anyone help?

Re: My Currency Cannot be Updated from Admin!

Thank you for replying at such an early hour.

I verified that Proxy status was "true", it was. Also the address was the same as well. Still, the update currencies button doesn't work.

Godaddy says that the SSL has to be on this account in order for this to work. I plan on getting a Secure Server for my site just before I go online. Is that what I need to get the update Currencies button to work, or have I missed something else?

Re: My Currency Cannot be Updated from Admin!

Zen Cart does not require SSL in order to update currencies.

It sounds like GoDaddy isn't doing you any favors.
Granted, I'm very much NOT a fan of GoDaddy's poor-quality hosting and tech support.

You have three options:
a) Stick with GoDaddy and try to convince their technical staff to fix things so that their servers can actually connect to external resources.

b) Stick with GoDaddy and manually update your currencies by looking up the correct rates and typing them in yourself.

c) Find a better host that doesn't have the technical limitations imposed by GoDaddy. Recommendations can be found by clicking "hosting" at the top of this page.

Oh ... question ... are you having exactly the same symptoms as the previous person? Are the error/warning messages the same?

Yes, I'm having exactly the same response that she was having. Is there something else?

Re: My Currency Cannot be Updated from Admin!

To be "exact", since I have tried to change to have fewer countries, the following is the response I'm getting. I appreciate the time you're spending here. Thanks

cURL communication ERROR: Received error code 403 from proxy
Warning: The primary exchange rate server (oanda) failed for US Dollar (USD) - trying the secondary exchange rate server.
cURL communication ERROR: Received error code 403 from proxy
The exchange rate for US Dollar (USD) was updated successfully via xe.

Re: My Currency Cannot be Updated from Admin!

Fungai:

Received error code 403 from proxy

Error code 403 = "Forbidden" ... meaning the GoDaddy proxy server is denying you access to the intended destination.

The fact that it's failing when connecting to http://www.oanda.com/convert/fxdaily but working when connecting to http://www.xe.net/ucc/convert.cgi suggests some sort of restriction in place on their servers to block oanda traffic.

You could switch your default update order to use xe first, by switching the oanda and xe values in these settings, taken from /admin/includes/init_includes/init_general_funcs.php:```
// Define how do we update currency exchange rates
// Possible values are 'oanda' 'xe' or ''
define('CURRENCY_SERVER_PRIMARY', 'oanda');
define('CURRENCY_SERVER_BACKUP', 'xe');

Re: My Currency Cannot be Updated from Admin!

Apparently the xe traffic isn't working as well, since the values of all the countries go to zero after attempting to use the "update Currencies" button; but I shall try to swap the names as you said.

I'm not opposed to using another provider. I would like to know, before I switch, which one you would personally recommend (you could email me that info) Also, are they price competitive, better service, Do they offer ZenCart support? What are the benefits and the pitfalls?

I like ZenCart, (love the E-start book) and if I can throw business your way, all the better.

Thanks

Re: My Currency Cannot be Updated from Admin!

As to experience, I use, or have satisfied clients who use, services offered by the first three companies currently listed on that page. I can't speak from personal experience about the others.
But you'll have to do your own due diligence. Some offer Zen Cart specific services beyond installation. Some do not. Their prices are shown on their website -- so comparison should be simple.
By using any of the companies currently listed on the hosting or partners pages, you help support the Zen Cart project.
