Categories won't show on left side of page

Hi -

I've been attempting to troubleshoot this with no luck. Every option having to deal with the Categories Box is set to True in the Admin panel yet, I don't see them on the side of the main screen. The only thing I see are the categories in the middle with a row of products going straight down the center.

I haven't changed any of these settings from default and this was installed lastnight. The only major changes I've made has been the install of the template 14040.

Can anyone assist?

I understand that as an option, but before I go that route.. is there anything I may possibly be missing or overlooking in the admin panel?
