question about files in Zen Cart

Hi everyone,

I was wondering about something. Does Zen Cart try to read ALL the files in the "my_template/images" directory or just the ones that are used? I have many image files that I don't use and I was wondering if this took a toll on performance.

Just wondering... Thanks for any thoughts

Re: question about files in Zen Cart

I'm pretty sure that Zen Cart won't "read" every image file just because they exist.

However, it "will" do this:
For PRODUCT IMAGES (ie: in the /images/ folder), read a directory-listing of all image files when looking for extra-images applicable to certain products
For PRODUCT IMAGES (/images/) and TEMPLATE images (/my_template/images/), will open and read contents of all images that are going to be displayed on-screen, mostly to determine image dimensions and calculate any size overrides according to configured preferences

I'd say it's generally best to remove images you no longer require. As for files in the template images folder, I suspect the performance hit would be minimal.
