no categories/product link in admin

i'm helping a friend set up her zen cart & she's unable to add products because when she logs into admin, there is no categories/product link across the top. how do we fix this?

If this is a new Zen Cart installation then reload the files for:
/admin

Sounds like you have bad, missing or otherwise corrupt files ...
