not getting emails on new customer signups and orders

Hi.

I just noticed that the emails are either a couple hours delayed, or do not come in at all for new orders and new customer signups. What could be wrong? Is there any template related to the signups and orders? I might have used templates that were built with 1.3.6 on 1.3.7....or what could have been causing this? my other stores on the same server seem to be fine, except for this site.
