Error: I cannot write to the file. Please set the right user permissions

Help!

I'm a real newbie. I'm trying to edit my pages via Define Pages Editor. At the top of each page it says Error: I cannot write to this file. Please set the right user permissions.

I do not have Zen Cart installed to my local machine.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Error: I cannot write to the file. Please set the right user permissions

If you follow the instructions in the /docs that comes with Zen Cart there are a lot of helpful information to read up on for setting up your site ...

For the Define Pages, you need the directory and files to be 777 in the:
/includes/languages/english/html_includes

These should first be copied to your templates and overrides directory for:
/includes/languages/english/html_includes/your_template_dir

For security you can later change these back to 644 ...

Thanks, I did not download Zen, but rather had my the web host do it.

I'm assuming that it's all in the file manager on Cpanel?

Re: Error: I cannot write to the file. Please set the right user permissions

While CPanel does provide for this ... you are better off downloading Zen Cart from the Download link at the top of your screen and installing it yourself on your server ...

CPanel is fine for testing things, but to actually run Zen Cart and maintain your site you want to keep a synched copy on your computer and your site that you control ...

Re: Error: I cannot write to the file. Please set the right user permissions

Hi, I am having this same problem but all my relevant files ARE set to 777.

5 days ago a new hosting company took over my new one and migrated my site over to theirs. After the install I could not change my front page using define pages and would get this error message. When I went into File Manager I noticed I had no 777 settings in the html_includes folder and the subfolders so I changed them back and tried to go into define pages again but I still get the error message. The permissions did not revert they are still on 777 in File Manager.

I have looked everywhere and can not see a solution to this problem. Could this be the result of something that happened witht the migration (there is nothing posted on their status page) or is it another problem all together.

Thanks

Julie-anne

Re: Error: I cannot write to the file. Please set the right user permissions

I would talk to your hosting site and have them check permissions and ownership of the files ...
