I want to add a "store front"

I've been reading everywhere, but can't find the answer.
I want to add a "store front" to my page, so when someone enters my page they see my "door" and not my store??? so they can click to the store..
Any help?

Re: I want to add a "store front"

How big of a store front do you want?

You can create a single page by saving it as index.html. The index.html page will load before a index.php page will load.

You can even have a whole site where there's a button that says "Shop" or "See our products"

If you want to have something like a content management system, Joomla, phpnuke, etc, where you can create zen cart in a separate folder and have a button or link, or ads that lead to the store. only problem is that the customer may have to login twice.

If you choose wordpress and make it a blog with a store you can use the mod that ties Zen Cart and Wordpress together. Search the forum to find it.

Re: I want to add a "store front"

Thanks,
Nothing fancy, it is just a black background with my logo and a link to the store, I uploaded it, but the logo (image) dosn't show. I don't even know where to upload the image to.
The other problem I have is that, the logo contained the link to my zc main page, but when you click on it, it returns to the same black screen.
Can you also tell me how can I name my main page into my own name?
it always says, zen-cart, the art of....and I want it named differently.
TIA

A link will definitely help.

I no longer provide installation support on forum for all my modules. However, if there are real bugs with the modules please feel free to contact me

Re: I want to add a "store front"

It sounds like you haven't created your own custom template. To create a very basic custom template (you can build from there), you need:

  • includes/languages/YOUR_TEMPLATE/english.php
  • includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/index.php
  • includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/meta_tags.php
  • includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/header.php (to change the logo)
  • includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/template_info.php
  • includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/tpl_header.php
  • includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/tpl_footer.php
  • includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/images/logo.gif
  • includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/css/stylesheet.css

Anywhere you see a /classic/ folder, you can create a folder for your custom template. You can copy the necessary files from either the /classic/ folder, the /template_default/ folder or the parent folder.

Edit includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/template_info.php to give your template identifying information so you'll recognize it in the admin under tools->template selection.

Thanks, I've done that, my new template is installed, but on the main page it still shows zen-cart, the art of...
I don't know still how or where to add my own name (domain)/shop, so I can have a store front with a link to my shop...

Re: I want to add a "store front"

That only goes to your (broken) holding page... what is the link to your shop?

Also, what do you see as the benefit to having a "front page" that has no function beside making the user click again to get to where they can navigate?
(As compared to a splashy page which also allows you to immediately start to focus your direction in the site?)

Have you ever edited a PHP file? Your best bet is to download a free (and high-quality) file editor like Notepad++ from https://www.sourceforge.net. You will need to FTP the file to your pc, edit it, and FTP it back to your site.

Re: I want to add a "store front"

You may be right, I am constructing my page and I am planning on adding more things to it, that's why I thought I would need a 'home" page.
I've been using notepad++, can so so kindly tell me which exact document do I have to edit and where do I stick my name to it?
Thanks

Re: I want to add a "store front"

As Afo said, includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/meta_tags.php.

If you don't have that yet, copy includes/languages/english/meta_tags.php, edit and save as includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/meta_tags.php.

The lines to edit should be self-evident, comparing with the address bar display you see.

The file to edit to change the name of your store is

afo:

includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/meta_tags.php
