importing or exporting products

Hi,
is there any way to export and import products between zen carts?
e.g. I have zen cart on 2 different sites and would like to add certain products and attributes from one cart to the other.. is there any way this can be done easily or do I have to re-enter all the information to the second sites Zen cart

Go to downloads section (link in header) and download the free version of easypopulate.

That will certainly handle the products themselves but may not include everything (eg. meta tags) and I think that is only in the paid version. The site should be in the downloaded folder and cost is $65. Paid version does a lot more.

There are links at the bottom of the easy populate tab in Admin to download various files including a "complete" text file (though this option DOES NOT) include attributes.

You can then import that file into the other cart.

Also, trust me that that newbies DO get help. 2 days is definitely not long enough to panic. Some questions get answered right away and others can take a while, still others may go unanswered. This forum is the most helpful one your likely to find and the Zen team (creator/founders) are really great about nursing the newly born zenners so have patience.

You can take it from me, no way I could have done what I've done without the assistance of many people and, more often than not, the super busy Zen team.

Langer's web site seems to be down, I wouldn't use the versions of EP in the download section as they seem to be buggy unless you are good a php to bug find.
If you PM me your email I will email you a copy of 1.2.4.5 which works well.

I've been testing 'easy_populate_from_osc_2.76dmod3a'.
Firstly i added a category and a product manually.
I then went to Easy populate/Download: Complete tab-delimited .txt file to edit.txt to edit.

I reimported the same file and this is what i get :

I can't get around this one cause when i look inside categories/products my products don't appear, only category.

I think it's got to do with

Think both Scrat and I were/are talking about that one. Not sure about the other one and differences with files, etc..

Just wanted to chime in here.

The osC Easypopulate port is definitely inferior to the Langer's Free one. I used the osC one for a little while, and couldn't get products to actually upload. I replaced it with the free Langer's one, and it worked the first time.

Hi, I'm new to Zen Cart and this is my first Online shop. I need some help with Importing my products to Zen Cart in the most effective and simplest way possible.

• I have over 10,000 products I would like to add.
• My supplier is providing me with an inventory datafeed that contains a detailed and up to date account of their inventory.
• The datafeed is in an easy to upload txt format. But can also be accessed through using ftp.

The datafeed includes the following information:
1)Name of the product and gender.
2)Picture and product description.
3)Wholesale cost and suggested selling price.

Any suggestions?

HIJACKER - Depends what you want to export, the most comprehensive way is via phpmyadmin which you can export all tables in csv format. The only question would be why you would want to change shopping cart software as zencart is so good, and 1.4 will be even better when it arrives:clap:

Because I don't find it easy to populate products into the database, nor can I find a nice way to add a fixed shipping cost at checkout.

For example, all composite hoods I sell range from $449-$539 and shipping is $150 flat (freight). Right now, the only way I can find to have that amount including in shipping is by adding it on top of the price and saying FREE SHIPPING.

But, when buyers see $599-$689 with FREE SHIPPING, the price alone scares them off even though I'm on par with market pricing. It REALLY impacts sales.

I'm so frustrated with the software at this point that I don't know which is a better option, pay for a developer to finish up the last bits of what I want done so I can just build on top of that or walk from it and use joomla, oscommerce, or another solution.

If you're curious, http://store.sc-customs.com is what I have so far.

HIJACKER - Play around with your shipping rates tables, do you have many shipping prices or are your limited to a few as this would be easier.

To give you an example:

0.50 : 10.00
0.75 : 20.00
0.95 : 30.00

10.00 : 150.00
10.50 : 160.00
10.75 : 170.00
10.95 : 180.00

20.00 : 300.00
20.50 : 320.00
20.75 : 340.00
etc

Basically I think this should work, your $150.00 shipping products should be 10.00lbs in weight so if your customer buys a $150.00 flat rate shipping product it still adds the original prices to shipping as well if they add additional products to the cart. You would need to see if you need larger that 20.0 as if they added more that two $150.00 of these products as your shipping would still be $ 340.00.

Thanks Scrat for the tip, but now what I did was downloaded easy populate to my store. But I'm having some problems:

1. Datafeed from the supplier - how do I configure, deleting the products that I don't need before uploading to the database?

2. How do I do a split file in easy populate?

From my experience every supplier supplies different information in different formats so that makes live very difficult. You just have to take the time to import the info. you need. Other than that try learning a programming language, I love Python its an easy language to learn and is spot on for going jobs like your wanting to do(Sorting Data files).

2.Have a look in the Tools>Easypopulate>'Split EP File' box, this will split the file in to several files of 300 products in your /temp/ folder and then you can import each file into the db using the 'Import from Temp Dir (temp/)' box. You will need to look in the /temp/ folder to see the file names EP has created. I have never used this myself as I never upload more than 300 products at once, so you will have to just try it out or some one else can advise you better.

As for the split file, I did as you said and "split file" (a message saying "upload split files in turn" where do I find Temp Dir? or where do I find /temp/ folder?
