Adding Wimpy MP3 player to cart

I have searched the forums looking for an MP3 player for my ZC. I found some references to wimpy player. I have downloaded the demo and installed it.

Following wimpy players instructions, i am instructed to place the following on any html document between the <body> tags. (please forgive me as i am not a programmer by any stretch of the imagination).

<!-- START WIMPY PLAYER CODE --> <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,47,0" width="690" height="65" id="wimpy2965"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.cotton-ink.com/mp3s/wimpy.swf" /> <param name="loop" value="false" /> <param name="menu" value="false" /> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <param name="scale" value="noscale" /> <param name="salign" value="lt" /> <param name="bgcolor" value="000000" /> <param name="flashvars" value="wimpyApp=http://www.cotton-ink.com/mp3s/wimpy.php&wimpySkin=http://www.cotton-ink.com/mp3s/skins/horizontial/skin.xml&theVolume=20&startPlayingOnload=yes&shuffleOnLoad=yes&randomOnLoad=yes" /> <embed src="http://www.cotton-ink.com/mp3s/wimpy.swf" flashvars="wimpyApp=http://www.cotton-ink.com/mp3s/wimpy.php&wimpySkin=http://www.cotton-ink.com/mp3s/skins/horizontial/skin.xml&theVolume=20&startPlayingOnload=yes&shuffleOnLoad=yes&randomOnLoad=yes" loop="false" menu="false" quality="high" width="690" height="65" scale="noscale" salign="lt" name="wimpy2965" align="center" bgcolor="000000" allowScriptAccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" /> </object> <!-- END WIMPY PLAYER CODE -->

Now, I can not for the life of me figure out where to place this code so that the MP3 player plays continuously without reloading after each navigation click.

I was told an iframe in the index.php might work, but the player reloads with every click.

I was also told to try setting up a frame for it, but reading these forums seems to indicate that ZC will have problems running in a frame.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. Also, I am not married to using Wimpy Player either if another player is better suited to work with ZC.

I simply wish to have some background music on my site while shopping. Can anybody help me with this?

Re: Adding Wimpy MP3 player to cart

Thanks Misty. Unfortunately, I do not intend on selling downloads or anything of that nature. I simply want to have music playing while people browse my site. I went ahead and clicked on each site noted in that thread and each was a music download type site and none of the sites had any "background" music when i navigated to it.

Basically, I'd like something inline with this http://www.triple5soul.com Note how the music player at the bottom remains constant while navigating the site.

Can this even be done with ZC?

My test site at above has a wimpy sidebox.
For security reasons, you will need to become
member there to view.

Re: Adding Wimpy MP3 player to cart

I actually just visited your test site. The sidebox is great, however, it has the same problem i am trying to address.

After clicking on the player, music begins to play. If you then navigate to any other page on the site, the music player reloads and stops playing, forcing you to click on the player again.

I'd like to keep the music playing seemlessly while navigating the site.

Have to say think you are making big mistake here.
If I visit a site and it has music playing endlessly, I leave.
Hence why my wimpy sidebox is selective

Re: Adding Wimpy MP3 player to cart

Thanks Misty,

But i think you're missing the point. Although your wimpy sidebox may be selective, its broken as far as useability.

Assume i navigated to your test site to view your products. While browsing, i notice your wimpy player and decided to listen to Elton John's "I believe" (excellent choice). So i click on the track and it begins to play. I then continue shopping.

Once i navigate to any other page on the site, your player reloads and the track i SELECTED to hear stops playing forcing me to restart it again after each navigational click rather than simply playing to completion. This quickly gets old and i'd venture to say that most people would simply opt not listen to the music that they actually wanted to hear while shopping because it doesnt allow them to listen to it WHILE shopping.

Why put a feature on a site if it does not serve its intended purpose and fails the test of useability?

But i digress, I am more interested in finding out if ZC is capable of playing music seemlessly while navigating the shop rather than the merits of having the music play. And if it is possible, then how to accomplish that.

Thanks.

Re: Adding Wimpy MP3 player to cart

Please remember, everytime you visit a new page, the browser NEEDs to reload, this is about http, it has nothing to do with ZC.
Solutions:

  1. Place the player on another window/tab
  2. Make the whole site Ajax --> not very practical here

Re: Adding Wimpy MP3 player to cart

BTW, the sample site you gave use Frame, that means 2 windows/tabs are actually opened there, so the player is located in another window and does not get reloaded everytime.

Re: Adding Wimpy MP3 player to cart

Thanks Yellow. The sample site i noted above, does indeed use frames. And i'd love to do it that way, but it appears that ZC does not work well in a frame (unfortunately).

As far as placing the player in a different window, I do not object to making a pop-up or something of that nature, but where would i put the code so that it would load once upon entering my domain rather than with every navigational click?

Re: Adding Wimpy MP3 player to cart

If you put the player inside a pop up window, navigating around the site(in another window) will NOT have any effect on that window, thus will prevent the player from reloading.

I would suggest something like this:
have a button on your site, says something like: click here to listen to I believe by Elton John, then when the user clicks on it, a opoup window will open with the player in it.

As for frame, I haven't checked if ZC does have any issue with that yet, so probably searching around the site will help.

Re: Adding Wimpy MP3 player to cart

Thanks for your help yellow.

I did some more searching regarding frames on these forums. while quite a few people seem to be anti-frame minded for quite legitimate reasons, it appears that frames can work. However, there appears to be some issues with session handling and payment modules.

At any rate, I'd like to give frames a try as i like the idea of the player being static better than in a pop-up. (even though i may end up HAVING to go the pop-up route if all else fails).

Any idea how i'd go about coding a simple frameset? basically, a top frame containing ZC and a lower frame of (10%) to hold the music player. (sorry, i'm programming challenged!)

Re: Adding Wimpy MP3 player to cart

Got it working using frames. I'm still testing all the functions in ZC, but so far, everything appears to work just fine.

Thanks for the help!

Re: Adding Wimpy MP3 player to cart

If you come up with any more issues try this place, they specialize in wimpy player and skins for it.
My best thought would be to have it in a popup window as well, or maybe switch to the new RAVE player and have both options, standard set player and popup player from one interface, plus it plays videos.

Here is their link...
WimpySkins.com

They even use Zen Cart to sell their skins out of.

Re: Adding Wimpy MP3 player to cart

I am trying to play music as well, but I had a different approach and I decided to continue it on this thread rather than starting a whole new one. Would ZC be capable of having a Flash file play music without a problem?

My original question was rather different, it was Would I be able to have ZC be able to play music when ever someone scrolls over a certain Tab in ZC.

Re: Adding Wimpy MP3 player to cart

I dont see any problem with it.
However, try not to play music UNLESS you have to, it can be really annoying.

Re: Adding Wimpy MP3 player to cart

Sweet! Is that from Wimpy or something else!

Also, misty I couldn't help to notice you have the Scrolling Features side box in your Sig. Would you be able to help with this thread?

Have used wimpy previously, but link to that program is at foot of player.
2.
Visited thread..only reason i know that prevents scrolling sideboxes working is
if ImageHandler2 is installed, and there is a fix for that.
If you view my demo site via Firefox, working fine

Re: Adding Wimpy MP3 player to cart

Ok Misty!

Just to be clear, I use the link at footer of player to use what is displayed on your demo site?

As for the scrolling side box, could I pardon you for a link to the fix? I suppose my site isn't functioning properly for Firefox 2.0.
