blank page problem on checkout -- GV only

Okay, so I set up a mirror of my store.

I got it running fine, and did the upgrade. everything went smoothly.

I went to do a test (using a Gift Certificate to pay), and went through the checkout process.

I confirmed the order and got a blank page for the following URL:
index.php?main_page=checkout_process

At that point, I had not uninstalled and re-installed Paypal, so I did that, and then did the same with my shipping modules as well (UPS and USPS).

Still get the same problem. I also tried it, without a GV, and that goes to Paypal like it is supposed to. Even paying partially with GV sends the order to Paypal like it should. It is when the whole order is paid via a GV that this happens.

BTW, when this does happen, the order is placed/processed, but the shopping cart is not emptied (hope that helps)

I have the following things installed:
Gift Certificate Admin
Sales Report
User Tracker
EZ Populate
Glossy Black Theme

And I have done a few small language file tweaks (though i seriously doubt that that is the problem). I have also added in a couple of side boxes and a best seller page (linked to the sidebox) -- none of these small tweaks should have broken anything.

Any help or suggestions would be helpful.

Yes, it is an add-on for editing Gift Vouchers (i.e. so I can add or subtract money to a person who has a GV). It is several stand-alone pages and it tells you to edit the gv_admin_dhtml.php file to add the items to admin menu.

It also had some optional changes that could be made to the
admin/gv_sent.php file changing a query and giving some conditional output as well.

It doesn't touch the DB, nor do I think it would be involved in the page where it is coming up blank, but I am disabling it and giving it a try.

And disabling it had absolutely no effect.

I just did a checkout using a GV to pay for the entire order, on a fresh v1.3.8 install.
No problems.

Blank pages are usually a result of syntax errors in PHP files, or incomplete files that failed to upload properly. Maybe you'll need to download all your files and compare them against what you had attempted to upload?

Can you at least give me a list of files that are involved at that stage?

In the meantime, I will try re-uploading some of the files and see if that helps.

Near as I can figure out it is loading the header_php.php file from the includes/modules/pages/checkout_process folder

And it is never reaching this line -- $_SESSION['cart']->reset(true);

It is dying somewhere above that.

But the only thing new in the includes/modules/checkout_process.php file is the creation of the session variables. At least according to my post winmerge files.

I am going to check it again, against a fresh copy of the file.

Can anybody tell me more about that "after_process()" function and where I can find out more about it?

I know from the URL in the browser that it is attempting to lead this sequence of files/pages.

I know from the header_php.php file, that the header is supposed to be clearing the cart, but I know from experience that it is not doing that.

This tells me that the problem has to be between where I click the continue button on the Confirmation page and where it calls for the cart to reset (the first thing that I can identify for sure that is not working).

Ideas? suggestions?

Have you tried re-uploading your ot modules in /includes/modules/order_total ?

I re-uploaded the whole modules folder.

Nor do I have any add-ons or anything like that regarding the order totals (which I know was a problem for a few others).

Have you compared your "classes" folder vs the master fileset?

Will start doing comparisons and such as soon as it is complete.

and the only payment module installed at the moment is the Paypal module (and yes, I have uninstalled and re-installed it - a couple of times.. hehe)

The contents of the classes folder compares as identical to the default fileset.

I also checked using some other payment modules, and anything purchased with GV seems a problem (check/money order, and offline CC payment). These other modules had problems even if I only paid partially with GV (unlike the paypal which went on through to paypal with a partial GV payment)

Any other ideas or suggestions?

I am going to try deleting my test store completely, setting it back up, and then re-upgrading it.

But before I re-upgrade, I am going to verify that payment via GV works fully, and I am going to be sure to uninstall all payment and shipping modules prior to the upgrade. I will set them back up after I upgrade it and see if I get the same problems.

It's a test site, so I have no compunctions about recreating it from my live store backups. :)

ok, store version 1.3.7 re-established. Paying fully with GV works fine, no white screen at all.

Next step is to uninstall the payment module and the shipping modules. And then to redo the upgrade and re-install them afterwards.

Then to check to see of the problem persists.

Ok, I am going through the upgrade and I noticed the red X in the image below.

It occurred to me that perhaps this was causing my problems?

Now, my live site is on a windows server, and this test site is on a Unix server. However, when I copied the DB and the files over from the my backup of the live site, I changed nothing (well, the configure.php pages are for THIS site and not the live site) and it worked perfectly.

But, is there something regarding that session.use_trans_sid being turned on that could be causing my problems here? (I checked and on my live site, this is actually turned off)

But even with that red X, I clicked on the Database Upgrade button and it said that everything went smoothly.

As described in the popup help text about session.use_trans_sid, if it's "on", it will potentially cause problems with proper session behavior.
Typical symptoms would be the inability to actually log in or keep items in the shopping cart.
I would not expect it to cause blank screens only for GV checkout.

well, I am now working on setting up a test cart on my company's server (rather than running the test on a unix server, to see if that does make a difference.
