Selling a service instead of a product

I am setting up a site that sells a local service (carpet cleaning) instead of a tangible product. So shipping is technically always free. Any tips on setting up the shipping modules so that it doesn't even show a shipping cost dialog or a way to get rid of the free shipping image next to the items?

Re: Selling a service instead of a product

Virtual Products skip the checkout_shipping page ...

Always Free Shipping utilize the checkout_shipping page and the shipping module Free Shipping freeshipper ...

0 weight is Free Shipping when marked as 0 weight means Free Shipping in the Shipping/Packaging for shops that usually ship by weight such as with USPS or UPS or Table Rate or Zone Rate setup by weight ...

Re: Selling a service instead of a product

I see the setting to make it a virtual product, but by selecting this, I am unable to get the customers address where I need to perform the work. Any way around this?

What shipping modules are you using?

Re: Selling a service instead of a product

Clearly this is a very old post. However, I also am selling a service (customized horse-training advice) and need an email address from the customer. So I created an attribute with a text box so the customer can enter the desired email address before they click Add to Cart. (I also added some additional attributes with text boxes to create an online form to get additional customer info.) It's great b/c their entered info shows up in the shopping cart, too.
