can't find MySQL Backup Tool

The faq says
Use either the "Backup MySQL Database" contribution under Admin->Tools to do the backup of your database

I have no option under there.

Re: can't find MySQL Backup Tool

Did you go to the download section on this site, download and install that mod?

I no longer provide installation support on forum for all my modules. However, if there are real bugs with the modules please feel free to contact me

Re: can't find MySQL Backup Tool

The keyword in the FAQ is contribution - that means it is an optional add-on.

Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

Re: can't find MySQL Backup Tool

in that case, rewrite the faq to state you need to download and install the contribution before you can go to admin->tools to use it.

Re: can't find MySQL Backup Tool

I have downloaded mySQL Backup mod but not sure where to put it. The readme says "upload all files from the "admin" folder of this ZIP as-is to your server". Where on the server? Root directory? When I put them there I still don't get a listing under Admin> Tools. I've tried a couple of other places too.

It means upload files contained in the zip to admin folder of your zencart install.

Re: can't find MySQL Backup Tool

So you mean, the "includes" folder and backup_mysql.php file should end up directly in the shop's admin folder? There's already a folder there called "includes", I don't want to overwrite it.

Yes, you ADD the files to /admin/ includes folder, NOT replace the /admin/includes folder.
File paths are defined in zip file.. i.e NOT all those files go into /admin/includes/

Re: can't find MySQL Backup Tool

I have carefully added the files and folders to the corresponding folders in "Admin". So backup_mysql.php is in Admin. The folders in the Includes folder in the download (languages, extra_datafiles, boxes) are in the includes folder in my Admin. Still I get no "Database Backup-MySQL" in my Tools menu. Could it be a permissions issue? I am hosting the cart locally for now so have no CHMOD but have removed the "read-only" on the back-ups folder.

No, it's not a permissions issue.
If you haven't loaded the /admin/includes/boxes/extra_boxes/xxxxxx.php file included in the zip, you won't get the menu option.

Re: can't find MySQL Backup Tool

Everything's there. everything in place.
I just noticed something in the readme file, about defining some settings in languages/english/backup_mysql.php. It refers to this code:

define('LOCAL_EXE_MYSQL', '/usr/bin/mysql'); // used for restores
define('LOCAL_EXE_MYSQLDUMP', '/usr/bin/mysqldump'); // used for backups

and it says to specify the exact path to these utilities for my server.
I'm a real newbie and at a loss here, any help much appreciated.

Those settings will have nothing to do with your Tools menu. It is handled strictly by the /admin/includes/boxes files.

If you're having trouble installing and getting the addon utility to run, you can always do your own database backups using the database management tools supplied by your hosting company. The most popular one is phpMyAdmin. Instructions for doing database backups via phpMyAdmin can be found in this FAQ: https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=103

Re: can't find MySQL Backup Tool

Thanks DrByte. As I said, it's hosted locally at the moment but I have done back-ups through phpMyAdmin. I just thought this would be quicker, but no problem.
