attribute versus product options

Hi,

what is the difference between a product attribute and product option?

Which one tracks inventory and price additions/subtractions?

It's kinda subtle, but basically an option is something generic that you can add to a project, like color or size. Once you add an option to a product, the specific instance of that option becomes an attribute of the product and you can, if you're using an add-in mod like stock by attribute manage separate stock levels for each combination of attributes for a product (also known as a product variant).
