How do you set how many products are displayed on the categories pages?

How do you set how many products are displayed on the categories pages? I'm working on a customers shop and there cart is only showing 4 products per page. we are using the columnar display now and only 4 products per page is not that much lol so we want to bump up the number.

Any help would be great thanks guys.

Most often those kinds of settings would be under Admin->Configuration->Maximum Values
