Save order and redirect to another page

Hi all

In my payment module I changed form_action_url to url of payment service, but operation approval may take a long time so I think that saving order before approval is good sollution. Is a way how can I get this?

Another (not so good) possible way is using of back url to finalizing order .. as described in this old thread:

but there is no description of this sollution ... only success story :(

did you find a solution. i'm looking for similar - save order then send order to payment gateway, get response from payment gateway , update order status :)
