Resetting Downloads for Customers

OK all...after many days of frustration and using gift certificates to re-enable downloads which meant that the customer had to re-order the video if the download failed...., I just 'learned' something....

In the attributes settings with 1.3.7, whatever you set your download days/downloads limits to were what was used when you clicked the colored button in the customer order edit screen to re-enable a download.

IE: you have video "avideo.zip" set for 5 days, 5 downloads in 'attributes settings'....and in 1.3.7, if you needed to re-enable a download, and you clicked the button in the customer order edit screen....voila, it's back to downloadable at the item-dictated days/downloads...with a nice pretty green button.

Now, I love my zen-cart---for the most part...but there are some VERY frustrating duplications. So, I just learned--ok, stumbled onto the fact-- that in 1.3.8 it doesn't matter one little bit what you have the attribute setting for a particular product set at....OR what you have set up in 'downloads manager'.....what matters for that little dang button is the settings in one tiny little area......

"configuration>attribute settings> and then the download stuff"

WHY???? Why make 3 separate areas to set the amount of days and the number of downloads available??

Anyway, for anyone else having the same frustration as me when trying to re-enable downloads (not to mention frustrating customers).....this is where you tell zencart what you want to do when you click that dang button to reenable a download (and, lord help you if you make a orders status 'update' without knowing that you will then disable the download unless you have gone to configure>attribute settings and CHANGED the DEFAULT from 1 day, deny downloads to something else!)

Re: Resetting Downloads for Customers

I'm 99.9% positive that I didn't change that setting--as I was totally confused as to why it was different on v.1.3.8....and couldn't figure out why it was changing all of the stuff to 1 and zero...or why the default for the attribute setting page was defaulting to 1 and zero initially.

At any rate, it's fixed now. And, of course, there's the 0.1% chance that some cosmic shift caused a blip when the new version was configured on the server that I am learning to hate (and I'm moving all of our stuff off of today as a matter of fact. I won't post the server name publicly; but i will be happy to talk privately if anyone is interested).

Anywho....was not aiming to offend the developers; God bless ya for all that you do for the open source lovers of the world!!
