Unlimited Quantity

Hi, I've just started using Zen Cart, and I have to say that the product is simply excellent.

However, for the life of me, I can't figure out how to give a product an unlimited quantity. Or better yet have the store ignore the quantity of all the products and consider them all in stock.

Does the no tracking work well for you on your site for this?

Well, theres still one problem. On the product pages, it displays the quantity I have entered in, which is 0. This might confuse customers who think that their products will be delayed because of this.

You need to turn the Quantity off on the various displays ...

For starters look in the Catalog ... Product Type ... and turn off the Quantity on the Product Type(s) that you are using by hitting the EDIT LAYOUT ...

When you get to the Product Type screen, you need to click on the product type. The default is Product - General, then you'll see the 'Show Quantity in Stock' Just set it to false or zero.

After clicking the "edit layout" button you will see a list of options.

The actual wording for what you are looking for is: Show Quantity in Stock

I have a question that Gary posed in his original post, but then the thread went in a different direction because he was looking to apply this to ALL items in his store.

I see how to set the entire store not to track stock, but what if I have just ONE particular item that I do not want to track stock on. Is there a way to do that?

Right now, I just set it up so there's 100 in stock and they will last awhile, but if there is a way to tell that item and that item alone to not even track stock it would be more ideal. Anyone know how to do that?

You would have to customize the code for either the orders.php not to manage the stock on that 1 product or the template file not to display the stock for that 1 product based on products_id ... Why would you want stock on everything but the one product?

I am using the cart for a yoga studio where all of the products EXCEPT the one in question are classes that people are registering for. For the classes, I track stock and I adjusted the language to say "Spaces Available" instead of "In Stock" so it lets people know how close to "full" the class is.

However, there is ONE product that is not a class: it is a punch card that people can purchase to "drop in" to any 5 class sessions instead of buying a whole class. Since there really isn't any limit to the number of punch cards that we could sell and the "spaces available" language doesn't apply, that's why I don't want to track stock on that item.

If you have a better idea for how to handle, I would love to hear! If not, I may just take this item off for now and tell people they have to continue purchasing those in person at the yoga studio for the time being.

I am in need of two things.

I need to set my store up to allow some products to be custom ordered. And I don't want quantities on these products.

Second I need to set up some of my products to order by size. Each size has a different price, and different quanity in stock.

How do I go about setting up these two attributes.

You could either capture the products_id and customize the tpl_ for the product _info page ... or you could use a separate Product type for this either using the existing Product Type such as document_product or creating your own Product type and customizing the look and language for it ...

I have the reverse situation where all except one product I want to track stock on. It would be very useful to have an unlimited stock setting (I did read a post from someone who mistakenly thought setting 0 did this) so that I could switch on the check stock settings. I could then use the alternate product type suggestion above to show the stock setting for the one odd product.
