error message: 1054 Unknown column 'p.products_id' in 'on clause'

Hi guys!

I use ZEn Cart for my online catalog. It was working fine until 2 hours ago. Suddenly when browsing the catalog, the categories and the products do not display anymore, instead there is an error message:

1054 Unknown column 'p.products_id' in 'on clause'

What do I do to fix that?

Thank you so much in advance!

There are some "related posts" at the bottom of this page which should help you sort it out.

Re: error message: 1054 Unknown column 'p.products_id' in 'on clause'

Thank you! I read those, but am a bit confused.

So, do I upgrade the Zen Cart version and then somehow import the databases containing my current information?

Did your hosting company recently tell you that they were upgrading their PHP or MySQL software?
What version of PHP and MySQL is your site using?

Re: error message: 1054 Unknown column 'p.products_id' in 'on clause'

Thanks! I just got off the phone with my hosting, they said the same. They also said I did not have to download the full new version, that there were scripts I could run to do the upgrade?

Well, if they believe they are experts in that area, perhaps they can coach you in the process, and help you when their advice fails to work properly.

Here are the normal upgrade instructions:
https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=108

Upgrading is not a task to be taken lightly. Especially if you have a lot of customizations or have a lot of versions to upgrade from.

Re: error message: 1054 Unknown column 'p.products_id' in 'on clause'

When upgrading from v1.2.x to v1.3.x, it is best to plan to rebuild your template and your customizations. There were significant template changes. It'll likely be less work to rebuild than to try to simply convert each file.

A script is supplied to handle your database data.

Follow the tutorial mentioned above. It'll take you through the process.
It's not something you'll likely complete overnight though.

Re: error message: 1054 Unknown column 'p.products_id' in 'on clause'

OK, so here is what happens:

I was able to ssuccessfully carry all mys ettings to the new version

The problem is with the database.

The information from the old database does not want to carry on to the new one

What do I do?

Re: error message: 1054 Unknown column 'p.products_id' in 'on clause'

you should have made a backup copy of the old database,
then using the zc_install run the upgrade on the database,

it will make all the changes needed

Re: error message: 1054 Unknown column 'p.products_id' in 'on clause'

Oh! I do have a copy of the old database!

But I am not really a wizard concerning this, so sorry if I seem a bit stupid.

So, after I carry on all my canges form the settings, I try to run the script for database upgrade? Is that it?

Re: error message: 1054 Unknown column 'p.products_id' in 'on clause'

Here is what I found out so far:

  1. Do the new install of ZenCart 1.3.8., in a new folder with a new database - did that

  2. Seems I need to upgrade the existing database using the scripts in the zc_install folder - did that, but it only upgraded to from 1.2.6 (current version) to 1.2.7. When upgrading from 1.2.7 up, get error messages

  3. Then I import the old database into the new one

I think the logic is correct - but how do I deal with the errors when upgrading the database?
