How Do I Change the Width of the Template?

I am trying to change the overall width of the template. In the tutorial, it says to go to: includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/css/stylesheet.css

I cannot find this when I go to: includes/templates/

Can someone please direct me?

Thank you in advance.

Re: How Do I Change the Width of the Template?

You have to make a copy of it from \zen\includes\templates\template_default\css and put the copy in your custom theme folder \zen\includes\templates\YOUR_TEMPLATE\css, creating all the folders too if you haven't already. Then you can change the custom stylesheet and your original one will stay original and you will have a clean copy to study and fall back on if you get stuck changing the custom one.
Then change the width in the #mainWrapper of your new stylesheet and upload it to your new custom directory.

Re: How Do I Change the Width of the Template?

If you want it centered on the page add this to your body tag

text-align: center;

Re: How Do I Change the Width of the Template?

Your site is giving off warnings that it's missing a key file before it gets to loading the CSS. It sounds like your template area is messed up and unless you have a good idea as to which files are missing, I recommend re-installing Zen Cart.

Re: How Do I Change the Width of the Template?

Okay, I will try reinstalling. I installed this though Fantastico Deluxe direclty through my hosting company, not manually. Does that make a difference?

Re: How Do I Change the Width of the Template?

Certainly does. I've only installed twice with it and not had problems (other than that it installed an old version both time - it takes a while to catch up with the latest versions), but my host tells me that it does sometimes mess up.

As there has recently been a version of Zen Cart released, I would certainly recommend that you download and install that instead.

Re: How Do I Change the Width of the Template?

I've used Fantastico several times and not had a problem except, as Kuroi said, it was a version or two behind. I don't use it now unless it's at the most current version because I'd rather install it from scratch than upgrade after installation.

Before you install, you should be able to see which version it is that Fantastico is trying to install.

Might want to call your host and ask them to upgrade before you try again, or install manually.

Installing manually isn't as scary as it sounds, really, especially if you're creating a new store from scratch. It's good practice for when you have to upgrade.

Re: How Do I Change the Width of the Template?

Thanks HTH, since I am new, uploading manually sounds terrifying. The version from Fantastico Deluxe is the most current version.

Re: How Do I Change the Width of the Template?

I have reinstalled zen cart, and am trying to change the width still. I changed the #main wrapper, but I don't see the changes.

https://www.badanaromatherapy.comI can't see any evidence on your site of an attempt to change the width of the #mainWrapper. What exactly are you doing to try to effect this?

Re: How Do I Change the Width of the Template?

I went to includes/templates/custom/css/stylesheet.css

and found #mainWrapper { background-color: #330000; text-align: left; width: 200%; vertical-align: top;

I changed the width to 200%

Re: How Do I Change the Width of the Template?

But you're using the classic template at includes/templates/classic/css/stylesheet.css. Your site doesn't even have a includes/templates/custom/css/stylesheet.css stylesheet.

Re: How Do I Change the Width of the Template?

width: 200%;

means the page should be twice as wide as the screen!

You obviously don't want that. What kind of width do you want?

Re: How Do I Change the Width of the Template?

I was just trying to make the main colum about an inch wider than it is.

I created the custom file as I was told to do by copying template to a custom folder. I am really new at this, sorry if I seem stupid about it all.

Re: How Do I Change the Width of the Template?

That's OK. We all had to start at the beginning. I'm just a bit puzzled because I can't see any evidence of a template called custom. Did you call it something else? Where did you put it? Also you will need to enable via Admin > Tools > Template Select before it has any effect.

Re: How Do I Change the Width of the Template?

Thank you for your patience and assistance, everyone.

I created:

includes/templates/CUSTOM/

Should I have deleted the classic?

Under: includes/templates/ there is: classic, CUSTOM, template_default

Where do I go for the Admin>Tool>Template Select? I see now where the folder I created is not showing up in my options of templates.
