Shutting off New Products for individual items

Is there a way to shut off the option for individual items to not show up in the "New Products for (month)" section? I don't want to turn off that feature completely but there are some items such as documents or sub-products that I don't want displayed in the "new products" section.

You would have to go into the database and change the "date added" to be older than the cutoff for new products.
