Where do I find my Server Load?

I see people mentioning all over about how their Server Load shows three numbers like (1.89, 1.50, 2.39), but I can't find that information in my admin controls. The server info page doesn't show "server load" anywhere. Where can I find my server load?

Re: Where do I find my Server Load?

The answer to that will very from host to host. Many that I have used have that information burried in the Cpanel application, but usually, those numbers are reflected graphically. You would get a better answer asking your provider that question as they will be able to point you to the exact place that you want to be. You can also get those particular numbers with a shell command, but again, your host will know if you have that kind of access.

Re: Where do I find my Server Load?

Oh, I thought this had something to do with Zen Cart or maybe PHP or Apache. No, I have my own server, it's a Windows XP box running Apache, PHP and MySQL. I guess I'm just supposed to use the Performance tab of the Task Manager? But when others mention having those 3 sets of numbers like (1.89, 1.50, 2.39), what are they referring to? Is there any way I can relate that to the Windows Task Manager?

If you have Zencart 1.3.7 or above (I don't know anything about older versions) In the Admin/Configuration/My Store down near the bottom, turn on "Server Uptime"

If you are on a Windows Host, you won't get an answer, but Linux hosts will return the results you are looking for In Admin/Tools/Server/Version Info.

Re: Where do I find my Server Load?

Now I wish I know how to interpret the results. Mine says:
Server Up Time: 11:31:58 up 202 days, 11:41, 0 users, load average: 6.48, 6.57, 7.04

I understand the uptime, but what do the numbers after "load average" mean?

Re: Where do I find my Server Load?

[root@localhost ~]# uptime
15:33:18 up 1:33, 3 users, load average: 0.01, 0.05, 0.09

The last 3 values show the server load for 1 , 5 and 15 minutes, in that order. This means that 1 minute back, the server load was 0.01, 5 minutes back it was 0.05 and 15 minutes back it was 0.09.

Re: Where do I find my Server Load?

Cool article, so My: Server Up Time: 11:31:58 up 202 days, 11:41, 0 users, load average: 6.48, 6.57, 7.04 is telling me that GoDaddy's Economy hosting plan is probably not the place I need to be.

Re: Where do I find my Server Load?

Ouch -, time to upgrade your server plan. Are those numbers just numbers though, or are you seeing performance issues? I have run in the 5 - 7 range before, but never quite that high.

Re: Where do I find my Server Load?

https://www.liberty-flag.com usually runns a little slower than the rest of my sites, but sometimes downright slow. It's hard for me to tell all the time, because I work on a satelite connection with incredible latency.

Re: Where do I find my Server Load?

I think I have looked at your site before...anyway, that isn't the point. I just checked it out over a T-1, it is pretty painful. I am afraid that is trying to timeout when I bounce around. That certaintly answered my question about performance though. It doesn't mess up, but it is slow. I appreciate the example!

Yup time to upgrade... ... or switch servers or hosting companies. Or demand that they move your account to a less-busy server.
