how to remove "units in stock" from store??

I am sure this has been covered and will continue to look... however...

How do I remove the label "xx Units In Stock" from my shopping cart? I dont want my visitors to see this label/field. I DO still want to have "Out Of Stock" displayed for needed items, and I DO still want to have my inventory numbers updated every time a purchase is made. I dont know if these are all related or not...

Admin panel --> Catalog -->Product Types --> (then select the product type, probaby Product -- General, that you want to edit and click the Edit Layout button)

perfect, perfect, thank you. and I see it now displays a "SOLD OUT" image in place of the out-of-stock text :-)

I will assume that this does NOT affect the inventory count at all? inventory count will still go down towards zero with each purchase?

next question that I just discovered - how do I keep customer from buying more than what is available in stock? with "units in stock" on or off I can still add more of an item to the shopping cart than what I have in inventory for it

Admin panel --> Configuration --> Stock.

There are a couple of different settings there you will want to look at controlling just those circumstances.

HTH,

"Allow Checkout" was set to TRUE, I set it to FALSE just now.. so apparently a customer can select and add like 9,999 of any product to the shopping cart and procede to add additional product w/o any problem or warnings, then at checkout time it will not allow the checkout and will display a message, in my case "<<insufficient stock>>", next to the appropriate item(s). I guess that will be ok, customer can fill up shopping cart before being told he needs to change one of the items...

ah, ok, never mind, got it, it gives warning as soon as item is added to shopping cart but allows me to continue... I like it :-)
