How to allow gift certificates to pay for shipping?

I've searched other threads about this, but haven't found anything. So, is there a way to allow gift certificate funds to pay for shipping charges? I understand that the customer will have to pay the difference if they are buying more than what the gift certificate covers. But some of my customers are having pay out of pocket for shipping when their gift certificate more than covers their total invoice! That doesn't seem fair to make someone pay shipping for something that was a gift. Any help would be appreciated!

Does anyone know how to do this? I've been playing around in my admin trying to find a way to change the setting...but nothing so far. I just need a way for gift funds to apply to shipping charges. Please help! I've got a lot of Christmas gift certificates floating around out there and I don't want my new customers having to hassle with paying, and then me having to manually refund shipping each time. Just checked this thread and saw your question...
My customers have these options:

Flat Rate
Table Rate
Free Shipping (only if item has free shipping, of course)

So far, I've only had people choose the table rate. And even when the GV amount was more than their total, they were forced to pay for shipping using another payment method.

We've just encountered this as well. We're using UPS, USPS and Zone shipping modules.

There have been a number of bugs regarding GC fixed recently, you may want to check the changes log.

I cannot repeat this error in the current Zen Cart v1.3.8a ...

On ancient versions of Zen Cart, such as v1.3.0.1 there have been so many issues addressed for bug fixes and security fixes as well as new features I'd have to recommend that you upgrade ...

It is really not worth hunting back that far to try to fix out dated code ... sorry ... :cry:

Each tine a certificate is used it happens. Does anyone know of a fix?
