bulk product price change tool?

I have several categories of products which in each category are similar. For example, I have a category of dumbbells of different weights, each product only differing in regards to the price and weight. Same thing with weight plates, and different types of dumbbells and weight plates. I'm mainly pricing them by weight. When I have to raise my prices, I'm forced to go through about a hundred products, calculating the new price based on a fixed price per pound I determine for the category.

Is there a bulk price change tool? Raising a whole category's prices by a % amount would be ideal, but I could also deal with at least having all the products lined up in columns so I can just tab through it to enter the new prices instead of having to do several clicks on each item just to change the price.

I've heard mention of exporting the products table to excel, making changes, and importing it back in, but I was never able to import it successfully.

Anyone?

I don't know how to do this by category, but I do this using Easy Populate Advance. LINK I recommend using OpenOffice, not Excel. I've had no problems with this solution.

If you guys have not done this yet, then I may have the answer for you.
My procedure to, after first creating the programs/procedure, was to 1) export the zen_products file to a .CSV
2) run an OO-Rexx program on the exported .csv creating a new .csv with the modified prices.
3) import the new .CSV to overwrite the existing zen_products.

Because the products are not just i one zencart file, you cannot delete or add records to the exported zen_products file
A full SQL backup is performed before this procedure in case of corruption.

If anybody is interested in this procedure I can document exactly how it's done to help out like minded zenners.

Did you "EMPTY" the file before trying the import to reload the changes or if you changed it with excel you may have lost the field seperators etc... view the before and after files with something like notepad.
