Force Selection of Attributes? & a way to position them better?

I. FORCE SELECT OF ATTRIBUTES

Is there a way to FORCE a customer to select attributes?

Example, a customer has 3 different attribute fields, and it is essential the customer choose from each one. Currently, if the customer doesn't scroll down to see the options, he just hits the "buy" tab and puts the order in WITHOUT selecting attributes at all.

II. ATTRIBUTE POSITIONING

Also, is there a way to better the positioning of attributes?

It would be nice if two drop-downs can be side by side horizontally, instead of listed vertically.

A good example is:

Here the Size and Color drop downs are so far apart, Size isn't noticed by most customers.

Again, it would be great if a customer is FORCED to enter a value into at least 1 field
