Suddenly get 500 error accessing my admin

V 1.3.8
Installed ok, have been posting products and photos. Been ok for a couple of weeks but tonight I tried to log into my admin panel and I got a 500 error which was > The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.

The script had an error or it did not produce any output. If there was an error, you should be able to see it in the error log. No error in logs, hosting says its my script error. Any ideas where I look in my script.

   Thanks

Re: Suddenly get 500 error accessing my admin

I have been able to login to my site for two weeks and yesterday I tried to login and got a 500 login server error from my hosting site. This is what is in the body of f browser- > The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.

The script had an error or it did not produce any output. If there was an error, you should be able to see it in the error log. The control panel error log shows nothing,is there a error log in some where in the Cart itself? The Zen Cart installed right and I removed the zc_install file and made the two files that need to be set to read only. The files that I made read only were includes/configure.php and admin/includes/configure.php. Do I have to uninstall and reinstall the Cart and lose all my products that I have listed.

Re: Suddenly get 500 error accessing my admin

A "500" error is generally a result of your server rejecting the data you submitted to it, or some sort of related security breach, or somehow asking it to do something it's configured not to do.

The server's errorlog should contain the details of such a situation.

  1. I'd suggest talking to your hosting company, esp since you said "it used to work", but then stopped. (I assume you've not been changing any PHP files on your server in the meantime.)
Hopefully they will be able to tell you what changes they have made to the server that could cause it. They should also be able to see parts of the server errorlog that you cannot see.

  2. You could try seeing if it's a PHP error by following step 2(a) from the following FAQ, substituting the /admin/includes/extra_datafiles folder instead of just the /includes/extra_datafiles folder:

Re: Suddenly get 500 error accessing my admin

I just had this problem myself. I have not TOUCHED admin at all for 2 weeks, now all of the sudden I'm getting this error. Yet PHP works on my server, since the front end of the store is functional and fully operational. What could be the cause of this?

Re: Suddenly get 500 error accessing my admin

Ok, I found out that the error was on the part of my hosting company. (entryhost). why PHP would work on one part of the site and not another is a mystery to me. But they fixed it.
