critical error message - 1054 Unknown column 'p.products_id' in 'on clause'

The first page of my shop loads, but anything beyond that produces this error:

1054 Unknown column 'p.products_id' in 'on clause'

Does anyone have any thoughts?

My site just started doing that too. Upgrading this site would be a nightmare and I would have to start from scratch so is there a patch still available out there to fix this error?
I couldn't get to the one listed in previous posts.

If you have installed a previous version such as 1.2.x you will need to upgrade to latest if your hosting provider has recently upgraded PHP/MySQL such as bluehost.com. See previous posts on this subject to upgrade. Here is one link about upgrading...

I've tried doing the update and the site has so many mods and changes to it that it just all goes crazy when trying to update it. The database stops updating halfway through the process and a bunch of errors show up on the website as a consequence. I have reloaded the original files and database up so I at least have a working website.
When clicking on "all products", everything shows up just fine. Its when you try and go to each category link that I get the error.
