Product Category and Order Total Discounts

I have downloaded the Category product discount module but it appears to apply discounts across all categories, while I would like to offer a discount for a certain quantity purchased in category (a) and a different discount for another qty purchased in categories (b) & (c). Does the module have this flexibility, or is it a blanket discount?
Alternatively I would be prepared to offer a x% discount on the order subtotal if it exceeds a certain value and y% if it exceeds a higher value.
Either of these options would be great if some kind person would educate a new Zenner on where to find the features.

You can set per-category discounts using the Quantity Discounts contribution; look in the downloads section.

What's the difference with the Better Together contribution (which you could use for quantity discounts across categories?) ?

Better Together is not a quantity discounting application; it's a "Buy <x> get <y> at a discount" type utility. In Better Together, you pair things and discount the pair. In Quantity Discounts, you specify thresholds and discount if they exceed the threshold.
