Have you checked the installation instruction here:
http://wiki.rubikintegration.com/zencart/modules/ssu/installation

Let me know if you have any question. Also, post your htaccess content here if you need more help. But judging from your site url, all you have to do is to change this line:
RewriteBase /whateverhere/

to

RewriteBase /

I did check the installation instructions at the link you gave. Still struggling a bit though :(

When I open the htaccess file with notepad I get the following:

BOF SSU

Options +FollowSymLinks -MultiViews
RewriteEngine On

Make sure to change "test_site" to the subfolder you install ZC. If you use root folder, change to: RewriteBase /

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

If your htaccess looks like that (assuming you use www.syzygypens.com)

Then it should work. If it doesnt and still give you the 500 error, please go to your cpanel, under the Error Log please copy the latest error details related to this 500 error and copy here so I can help you

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

You have a bunch of unrelated errors that you may want to contact your host.

For SSU, the one causing the problem is probably this:
NoCase option for non-regex pattern '-f' is not supported and will be ignored.

Is your htaccess content exactly as you posted or you have something else in it as well?

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

You have to bring up this problem to your host, I have done a bit GoogleSearch (example:http://wordpress.org/support/topic/151711) and this seems to be a server related problem.
Also: http://www.bluehostforum.com/showthread.php?t=12273 (so maybe the error you have is ....useless in this case)

As you can see in the htaccess we dont use NoCase (NC) there, so it shouldnt be a problem. Unless you have another htaccess on your site which uses NC.

Anyhow, also remove .htaccess for now to have your site functioning normally again, and let me know what your host says.

If you turned off SSU AND remove the htaccess, It cant act that way unless:

  1. Your server uses a cache system for htaccess, so that the change wont be reflected within several minutes/hours (and if so, this may explain why your new change in the htaccess didnt yield the expected result)
  2. You deleted the wrong file :p. I did it sometimes, when I work with multiple sites a time or a server that store more that 1 sites.

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

I called the tech support at Blue Host. He wasn't much help. Said the problem was with Zen Cart and I needed to contact them. He said the server does not cache.

I copied exactly what you had in that link into my htaccess file and re uploaded it. The site is still looping. This is what is in the htaccess:

BOF SSU

Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine On

Change "/zencart/ to the correct setting

if your site is located at root folder, then you should have RewriteBase /

Go to your include/configure.php, this value should be the same with the value of DIR_WS_CATALOG

RewriteBase /zencart/

Deny access from .htaccess

RewriteRule ^.htaccess$ - [F]

RewriteCond %{SCRIPT_FILENAME} -f [OR]
RewriteCond %{SCRIPT_FILENAME} -d
RewriteRule .* - [L]

RewriteRule ^(.+) index.php/$1 [E=VAR1:$1,QSA,L]

EOF SSU

RewriteBase /

(wait, isnt it working on your site?)

It is RewriteBase/

I just checked again and that is what it is. I don't know where that RewriteBase/Zencart came from

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

yellow1912:

I will look into the zenid problem you mention, seem like a serious problem if it does actually happens

Edit: Tried on Safari and Opera, couldnt recreate it.
I will try again once we move the site to a domain without any sub folder and see if it affects anything at all.
**Can anyone using 3.6.0 try to test this on your own site?
**
For the second problem, you may want to look into the alias manager and see if those aliases are not disabled.

You went to the domain I listed (the one with the spaces in between the letters to keep from indexing) and it loaded fine?

The second problem, the aliases were not disabled by me manually. I thought that if I made changes in the config and then cleared all cache it would reset everything. Am I wrong? It seemed as though doing a bunch of changes and clearing of the cache had somehow caused a script error. I will try to recreate the error again on the live test site and will report back any problems.

I suggest getting RC5 which should fix the "disable" problem.

Also, yes I went to that one. Perhaps you can upgrade first, clear cache, then if the redirection is still going please post your htaccess content

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

You may also want to make sure you redirect from non www to www link in your htaccess, that should fix it for you.

Make sure the redirection is done before ssu kicks in, so if you add the rules for www redirection in your htaccess it should be right below this line:
RewriteRule ^.htaccess$ - [F]

Yes, of course, this was the problem. Somehow my .htaccess file was overwritten before I added your code to it and the overwrite had deleted the non-www to www redirect. Thanks for the reminder!

I will upgrade to the latest RC and see if I can replicate the problem I experienced earlier with it adding only the category ID to the string unexpectedly after many changes back and forth.

Thanks again!

Ian
TROUBLESHOOTING: After installing itself, this module writes a file named ".keep" in admin\includes\module_installation, if your server doesnt allow it to do so, it may make the module attempting to install itself everytime. The fix is easy though, just manually create a .keep file there (after the module has already installed itself, of course)
