Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

yellow1912:

You should not use html extension, it was there to support people who switched from other modules, but in fact it doesnt help at all with either seo purpose or user friendly purpose.

Regarding the links, I wondered if you have cleared the SSU cache after you upgraded the new version.

If you clear cache and if that solves the issue, you can try to enable link alias and auto alias to see links without identifiers inside, remember you will also have to clear cache again to see the effect

I have changed my settings to:

ID delimiter -
Name delimiter -
File extension html
Set max category level 0
Set Link Alias Status true
Set minimum word length 0
Set maximum name length 0
Set SSU Status true
Set Auto Alias Status true
Set Category Separator /

I reset the cache and it made no difference. I manually deleted all the files in the SSU cache and then reset the cache in in the admin. After that it made my URL's change from:

.nintendoparts.com.au/-c-2_5/ds-lite-bottom-lcd-screen-p-2

to

.nintendoparts.com.au/-c-2_5/ds-lite-bottom-lcd-screen

Which is a mild improvement. I'd still like to remove the categories all together. I know .html extension is not necessary, but at this stage I want it almost on principle only. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I just want to work out why this mod isn't working 100%

I've also noticed that often after making changes such as after upgrading, and sometimes for no reason at all SSU turns itself off. Even though Set SSU Status = true in admin I have to re-update the SSU status to true to get it to work again. Strange:huh:

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

This is indeed weird, because it has never happened before as you can see your issue is indeed unique if you search this thread.

I suspect something wrong with your current store setting, but I cant say which exact part is wrong unless I look at your files. I cannot offer further help at this stage, if you want you can pm me your admin and ftp temporary login so I can take a look for you, otherwise there is nothing else I can do for you. Sorry

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

Having the same problem with SSU as nintendoparts with category showing up like -c-31 instead of the usual great URLs. Most categories and sub categories show up with the right category name in the url except for two of them which use the category ID. Did you find a solution?

I'm using ZC 1.3.9f and SSU 3.8.5.

Thanks,
Sharon

You may perhaps have the same setting then: note that you cannot set the category depth level less than 1, 1 is the minimum level (for now)

Thanks for all the help yellow1912

I have now set my max category level to '2' and category separator to '-', and I'm now getting nice URL's like:

.nintendoparts.com.au/ds-lite-screens/ds-lite-bottom-lcd-screen

still can't get .html extensions to work, but this will have to do.

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

Bummer. My category level is set to 2 so that's not it. All my categories/sub-cats work beautifully except for 2. I'm working on the site offline right now but could make it available if someone can help on this one stinking little problem.

Other than these two sub-categories, I'm loving Simple SEO URLS!!

@ shananny
Have you tried setting your max category depth to 3, I found setting mine to 1 didn't quite give the result I wanted as most of my categories are 2 deep. If your categories are 3 deep you may need to set max category to 3?

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

My SSU module now keeps becoming non-functional after a day or so, argh! My URL's are all showing like:

.nintendoparts.com.au/ds-lite-screens/ds-lite-bottom-lcd-screen?zenid=2h7oibn6p685grbah3ta7m55l0

I reset my browser cache, and it still shows the non-SSU URL's. I double checked that the SSU status is set to true in the admin configuration.

If I re-update the SSU status to true in the admin configuration my URL's switch back to:

**
.nintendoparts.com.au/ds-lite-screens/ds-lite-bottom-lcd-screen**

Now that I'm getting nice SSU URL's I'd really like the module to stay turned on! Any ideas?

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

Hi.

I have been following and reading this tread to the end of the world, and i have actually gotten closer to my goal by getting tips from all ya out there, but there seems to be some last issues regarding this.

@Nintendoparts - you said you got it to work after setting Categories Separator to -, is this in layout settings? like in the two options listed

Categories Separator between links Status
Categories Separator between the Category Name and Sub Categories - OR just one of them? I did not get any closer to the solution by doing it like you have.

My problem is that my links do NOT redirect at all, i have the lousy link like you did - http://www.i-spy.no/overvaking-spion-kamera-c-1_2/gsm-kamera-med-nattsyn-og-bevegelsessensor-p-7

http://www.i-spy.no/overvaking-spion-kamera-c-1_2/spionpenn-8gb-p-8

After cleaning my cache the link above looks like this:

http://www.i-spy.no/overvaking/spion-kamera/spionpenn-8gb - Very nice, but still NO redirect

And so on. Also i we have special characters here in Norway like ÆØÅ, but to my understanding this should not be any problem. When i try to just go to a category to see if it redirects by a clean link it does not.

http://www.i-spy.no/overvaking-c-1

After cleaning cache:

http://www.i-spy.no/overvaking

but still no redirection.

Any body knows what the issue here is?

It is kinda frustrating cause all problems started with the module manager installation, and i feel in so close now.

I use the latest in zen and module and SSU.

If you are referring to the "zenid" data at the end of your URL, this is NOT cause by SSU at all.. This is part of Zen Cart behavior (sessions setting which is admin configurable). Suggest you search for "zenid" in the forum to understand what the "zenid" is.. Here's a few links that might help (there are plenty more on the forum):

https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=281
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpost.php?p=920561&postcount=7

The session ID does not affect SEO if that is your concern..

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

yellow1912:

I have checked again and can confirm there is no yclass in the new version of SSU which is available NOT on this zencar website but on eazyecommerce.com

Right. It's not included in the new version, yet there are other mods (Cross Sell Advanced for one)that still call to this yclass thing. I have had this problem over and over again and the new module manager nor new SSU solve the problem.

The file in question for me was located in includes/classes/yclass.php. If that file is missing, things won't work.

Also, it is VERY confusing/annoying for us users to not get the newest version of mods on the ZenCart site. It should be a requirement IMHO. :]

Nintendoparts:

I have changed my settings to:

ID delimiter -
Name delimiter -
File extension html
Set max category level 0
Set Link Alias Status true
Set minimum word length 0
Set maximum name length 0
Set SSU Status true
Set Auto Alias Status true
Set Category Separator /

I reset the cache and it made no difference. I manually deleted all the files in the SSU cache and then reset the cache in in the admin. After that it made my URL's change from:

.nintendoparts.com.au/-c-2_5/ds-lite-bottom-lcd-screen-p-2

to

.nintendoparts.com.au/-c-2_5/ds-lite-bottom-lcd-screen

Which is a mild improvement. I'd still like to remove the categories all together. I know .html extension is not necessary, but at this stage I want it almost on principle only. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I just want to work out why this mod isn't working 100%

I've also noticed that often after making changes such as after upgrading, and sometimes for no reason at all SSU turns itself off. Even though Set SSU Status = true in admin I have to re-update the SSU status to true to get it to work again. Strange:huh:

If I'm understanding correctly you are having issues getting SSU to ignore the delimiters? I have had this problem over and over again as well. I ended up resolving it myself by going to /cache/SSU/ and the following folders:

aliases
categories
pages
pc
products

and one by one deleting the entire contents of EACH folder. [it took houuurrrs] If you don't have those folders [I didn't for some reason and SSU kept yelling at me] just do as I did and create them. It helped made SSU behave for me.

Then I made sure my SSU settings in admin were as I wanted.
Then Admin->Extras->SSU Manager and reset all cache.

It sounds like what you already tried, but you never know! :p

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

Not really, that is how it should work.

When you visit the site for the first time the session starts and thus you see zenid in there (note that this shows for only real users, not search engine bots, also by first time I mean everytime you open your browser and go to your site)

Nintendoparts:

Had no luck with this one, same issue is still here. But i also need to add that i actually have no clue on how to make a php.ini file so i search and followed this solution.

http://help.joyent.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=124

The php file i downloaded was full of info so i deleted it and pased in cgi.fix_pathinfo = 1 as stated in the knowlegebase.

You open notepad+++ and insert the information and save it as php.ini file or if you are running php5 on your server save it as php5.ini and upload that to your server in the root of your server.

Im on a php5 server. Tried your way by opening notepad, add the info and save. It vas saved as a .txt file. did not work, changed it to .ini on the root folder. did not work.

Downloaded the .ini file from last mentioned link , opened it and changed info in winedit and saved it to .ini. php5.ini and uploaded it. No luck.

I feel to solution is so close and that it is just a tiny little error that is causing this. This is just annoying no

This error is with the current configuration of your server. In the link I posted above, there is 1 suggestion to solve it by adding .ini file, another solution is available if you follow the link on the same page.

If you tried both solution and it still doesn't work, perhaps you can contact your host to see if they could help with this specific error. You can also send them the link I posted and tell them you tried both. This issue comes from the server configuration itself so your host should has the best knowledge on how to solve it
