Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

The id in the categories can go away if you want to, assuming you dont have too many categories.

An automate process is planned for future release.

BTW, I meant to say "manually for each name", not link. Watch the link-alias video tutorial and you will understand.

Hi,

Yes, I am using 3.3.7 and have set up aliases for the category ID's just not all the links for each product.. that will take a while.!

Whilst I have your attention.. I have page 1 on google for a number of key words, what will happen to those links ? Do I have to set up a re-direction ? If so, how ?

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

SSU SHOULD redirect old links to new links properly (otherwise, there is no point in setting it up)
You can try to do some test on your site, visit the old links and see if you are redirected to the correct new ones, if not please report it here.

This is a more appropriate way to handle it (from my pov), instead of leaving a blank field there.
SSU 3+ leaves much parsing job in your hand (since removing non alphanumeric characters can destroy the names of those sites that use multi-lang names).

That makes sense. I thought it was a bug because for those who upgrade, generally it's not desirable for links to change and old product links to give 404 instead a redirect. GoogleBot doesn't appreciate that as well. Somebody could bookmark a product and when decided to buy, will get a "page not found". But all this applies only to those who upgrade.

Maybe, there should be a note about this on the 'upgrade' section of docs so upgradees can adjust their product names and check if all links are identical to current version before going live.

Anyway, big thanks for clearing it up for me

Actually, in rare cases link names changed, SSU will properly redirect you to the new link (using the ids in the links)
So you will not get any page not found, unless that product does not exist anymore.

That's right it should work - i forgot about id's. It seemed that i got some 404 errors for products that had both brackets and commas, but i cannot confirm now. I started fixing by renaming products until all links were identical to the ones before upgrade. So maybe that was something else. false alarm:blush:

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

Please help me, I installed SSU to customers site and now it doesn't work at all. I deleted SSU files and returned originals but still nogo..

Frontpage loads but links are dead.
Throws 404 error: The requested URL /cSSU_ID_DELIMITER2 was not found on this server.

How can I fix this?

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

OK, so I installed SSU files again and got site up and running.

How can I modify SSUs settings?
urls are now generated: /cSSU_ID_DELIMITER18

not so good looking, nor usefull..
In admin panel there is BOW_SSU option (displays blank page) but nothing else. Where can I find configuration or should it be done manually?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

So many people never read the installation note, make sure you are not one of those:

http://wiki.rubikintegration.com/zencart/modules/ssu/installation

If you have followed the note, and still get the error, you need to determine what is the error first.

If your server is on php4, you can not run SSU 3+
And even if you run 2.9.6, you have to the includes folder in the package and:
if you see a file with 2 different extensions (php and php4) then:
rename the php one to php5, and php4 to php

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

I'm running 3.3.7. And everything had been working fine.

I failed to check a couple links.

The EZ pages that have links in the header and footer come back 404 errors.

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

This usually happens when you misconfigure your htaccess. If you believe you did it right, then you have to check your server error log (thru Cpanel or whatever method your host provides you) to get a more detailed error report.

@tacoma:

This file will fix your problem (please clear cache after uploading the file)
(upload t0 \includes\classes\ssu\plugins\parsers)
The next time, when you report a problem like this, please make sure you include a link for me to check, otherwise I wont know what went wrong.

SSU 3.3.8 uploaded to include this fix.

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

Yep, my bad. I found installation manual from docs and got it up and running. Works great, thanks for great plugin!

Only downside is that now links to view bigger product images are dead. Can you help me to fix this?

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

Basicly all thumbnail image pop-up links are dead, for exaple take a look at this page: http://www.automodels.fi/ford-c-3/ford-anglia-105e-sportsmen-1962%2C-valkoinen-p-324

image link is generated to: http://www.automodels.fi/popup_image_additional/pID/324/products_image_large_additional/images/FordAnglia105E_Ixo1a.jpg

when it shoud be: http://www.automodels.fi/images/FordAnglia105E_Ixo1a.jpg

And another thing I found was that when I generate sitemap for google, all links are duplicated with ?zenid=d835a6bc84bc1748e9d318a12c015709 tag adition. What's this?
