UK Postcode Lookup

Here is a guide on how to add UK Postcode lookup to your Zen Cart,

I hope that you find this usefull, also includes a pre-edited file to save you the hassle of adding in the code.

I had been wanting to add such a lookup to Zen Cart for a while but never got the chance to sit down and work it out, today i have done that and thought i would share it with you all.

Thanks
Rob

Re: UK Postcode Lookup

Hi

This Postcode lookup tool is great

But i have one problem

How do i get the postcode lookup tool on the checkout page where you can change your shipping address and on the address book page where you add a new address book entry.

Re: UK Postcode Lookup

Yes this is a paid for service. You buy credits which are then depleted with each lookup. However, they give you some credits up front to test your installation, so maybe you're living on those.

Re: UK Postcode Lookup

No. The Royal Mail licenses owns the rghte to postcode information and licenses it (google "PAF"). So any service provider will be paying for the data that they serve to you and will want to charge you in return.

Re: UK Postcode Lookup

Hi,

Thanks for the code and documentation Rob. I'm currently looking into building the postcode look-up tool on the shipping and address book page within Zen Cart too.

In terms of cost the service is licensed purely on a credit pack based system - there are no other costs involved. Having said that, you are more than welcome to register for a free account with us and we can provide you with some free test credits to have a play around.

We have plenty of code samples and documentation on our website which can be found here: www.postcodeanywhere.co.uk.

If any of you guys have any questions or neeed any assistance with this let me know.

Thanks,

Re: UK Postcode Lookup

Hi guys,

yes as has been said it's based on credits which are purchased in advance, from what i remember you get 20 searches for free when you signup,

I have not been using ZC for around 9 months now and have moved to another business, does anyone know if this works with 1.3.9? or does it need updating?

Thanks

Rob

Re: UK Postcode Lookup

Hi Rob,

In addition to those 20 credits you get when you register we also have a free test postcode “WR2 6NJ” which is very useful for development and repetitive testing. I have just had a go at setting up Postcode Anywhere within version 1.3.9 and didn’t come across any problems. Has anyone else given it a go?

Thanks,

Re: UK Postcode Lookup

Tom,

That's good to know it is working with the latest release 1.3.9,

From your posts it looks like you are from postcodeanywhere, but in your first post you said you were looking to put it into your zencart install. Are you from pca? If you are its a good service and you have done well with the integration ability of your service. Last time I looked the addon had over 1k downloads, I'm sure you have picked up some customers along the way from zc.

If your just using it on your site you can't go wrong it works very well,

Rob

Re: UK Postcode Lookup

Quick note to people interested in this functionality, but concerned about the costs.

A cheaper alternative but based on the same Royal Mail PAF data: www.craftyclicks.co.uk.

The contrib zip file can be grabbed from : www.craftyclicks.co.uk/web-service/shopping-cart-plugins

BTW: I work for CraftyClicks.

Cheers,
Adam.

Re: UK Postcode Lookup

Hi Luke,

As I mentioned in the email conversation we had earlier today, the Postcode Anywhere plugin for Zen Cart does indeed include Royal Mail PAF look-ups for all of the pages where customers address information is entered. If you need any further assistance setting up the plugin, we do not charge for technical support and can provide you with free credits for testing too!

Kind Regards,
