setting absolute price by attribute with a quantity discount

Hello

I'm having a tough time trying to set up a product. I only have one product it's sand. I have set up a product called "beach sand". I ship it either in a small box or a large pail. I change $5 for the 1/2 lbs box or $60 for the 3lbs pail. I also want to give a price discount for the quantity ordered. (IE, box 3-6 = $4, 10+ = $3 or pail 3-6 = $50, 10+ $45)

My product has a price of $0.0. I'm setting the price as an attribute. So while buying beach sand the user can choose if they want a size of either a box or a pail. This seems to work fine. I get the correct total prices for either a box or pail.

But I can't figure out how to add the quantity discounts. I've tied using the "Attributes Qty Price Discount" and the "Product Quantity Discounts" but neither seem to work correctly.

How best should I configure my product? Am I going in the right direction? Which method of applying quantity discounts should I use?

Thank you for responding to my posting.

At the product level. My product "Beach Sand" is configured with a "price" of 0.0000 and has "Priced by Attributes" = YES.

I have a radio element with one option named "packaging size" and two option values, "3 lbs pail" and "1/2 lbs box".

For the 3lbs pail I have these attributes configured:

Prices and Weights:
Price: + 60.00
Weight: + 3

Re: setting absolute price by attribute with a quantity discount

If none of the Attribute Prices are included in the base price then how are you Priced by Attribute?

Priced by Attribute means take the lowest attribute price in each of the Option Names and add together to make up the cheapest price that the Product can be purchased for ...

NOTE: When Priced by Attribute you usually would not use the prefix ... as a 60.00 attribute is 60.00 not +60.00 ...

Re: setting absolute price by attribute with a quantity discount

Thanks for the info, Maybe I'm using the price by attribute wrong. I have one product. It has two prices based on a user choice of an attribute I call size.

size small = $5
size large = $60

I wanted the user choice to determine the price.

Of course I also want to give quantity discounts. But maybe I should ignore that until I better how to understand how to set up a product.

Re: setting absolute price by attribute with a quantity discount

To setup the difference in prices based on product, I would do the following.

Setup the product. Set the price to 0.00.

Then go to Option Name Manager. Create a dropdown by the name of "size" or "Packaging". Then go to option value and add two values. The first would be your small package and the second would be your larger package. In the box that says "sort" make sure you put 0 for whatever item you want to show up first on the dropdown and the other one enter the sort as "10".

Then go into Attribute Controller. Select your product. Then add your attributes. On the small box set the price to $5.00. On the big pale set the price to $60. All the other settings you can leave as defaults.

If you want, you could also use radio buttons to accomplish this task as well. If you chose to do it that way the only thing you would have to do differently is change the choice of "dropdown" to "radio" and set the "default on" either your small or large package. You change the "default" in the attributes controller. It's the third box from the left.

EDIT: I'm an idiot and didn't read carefully. I thought you were having issues with getting the different prices per size. I'll come back with how to change the price per quantity and say how in a bit.
