Best way to handle delivery for a florist

Ok, so I'm trying to figure out the best way to handle delivery for a florist. They don't ship and they don't allow store pickups...it's strictly delivery only. Weight, price, etc is insignificant...it's all purely based on the recepients zip code. How would you go about setting up this scenario?

How would you go about setting up this scenario where the delivery fee is calculated based on the distance between the store and the recipients regardless of weight, product quantities, etc?

I have done an extensive search of the forum on your behalf, in an attempt to locate a possible answer to your current question.

Based on my understanding of what you are trying to accomplish this thread http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63608&highlight=Shipping+based+on+zip+code should do the trick. Be sure to read through the entire thread as there is a lot of useful information about the module that is offered there.

The most current version of the module will be found in a link in post #135.

I have not actually ever used this module, but it appears several people are successfully using it, and other modules put together by the author work really well. If the module works for what you need, I'm sure the author of the shipping module would appreciate a donation of some sort.

Hope this solves your dilemma, and allows you to finish your site.
Best of luck.

Re: Best way to handle delivery for a florist

Thank you very much for looking into it. I also did extensive searches and couldn't find anything. I'm a programmer by trade (ASP.NET/VB.NET) so I tried digging into the code and seeing if I could figure out how to do it manually. So far I got to the point where I can extract the zip code from the database, then use a loop to loop through my collection of zip codes. If there is a match, I set a variable equal to the dollar amount associated with the zip code. The biggest hurdle I've faced is that I don't know how to add that shipping value to the overall cost in the cart. I think I'll look into this module that you've sent instead...I've spent too many hours trying to do it myself.

Re: Best way to handle delivery for a florist

I just had a look at the link and I've already installed and tested this. After about 6 hours of combing through documentation and finally getting it to work, I came to the realization that it doesn't quite do what I need it to do. Thanks for giving it a shot though.
