Title bar help needed

Hi everyone
thanks to the help of some of you I have been able to customize my template but I am having an issue with the Title bar. It says "Zen Cart!..." I have been trying for hours to change it...I have followed the steps and edited my meta_tags.php file and uploaded to my server in the following folder includes/languages/english/gmcustom. But every time I do this and check my page nothing changes.

I am not sure what I am doing wrong I hope someone can help. the other files I edited and included in my custom folder have worked fine, ie. shopping_cart.php, header.php and index.php.

I am using v1.38a, I have been using Adobe Go Live to edit most of my php and css files.

www.gomoto.biz/gomoto

much appreciated

Re: Title bar help needed

I was referring to the the title bar (browser bar, the title also seen in tabs) everything I have read on the forums says to change the meta_tags.php. I just looked in the header.php file and I do not see a place to change the words "Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce"

if i do change the header.php file can you point me to the code to change.

Thanks so much for helping :)

Re: Title bar help needed

I think maybe I am explaining something wrong.

  1. Take a look at my page www.gomoto.biz/gomoto
  2. Look at the very top of the page (in Mozilla the browser bar is blue) and it reads "Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce - Mozilla"
  3. I want it to read "Go Moto, Women's Motorcycle Gear"

The header.php does not have the text referenced above it reads "Powered by Zen Cart :: The Art of E-Commerce"

However the meta_tags.php file does include "Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce - Mozilla" But when I make my changes and upload it to my custom folder than refresh www.gomoto.biz/gomoto the title in the browser bar does not change.

I am trying to figure out why it is not changing.

Re: Title bar help needed

meta_tags.php is indeed the file you need to change, but you need to go to

includes/modules/YOUR-TEMPLATE/meta_tags.php and look somewhere around line 63 or 64.

Remember, it is the meta_tags.php file found in the modules directory. After you make your changes, save it to includes/modules/YOUR-TEMPLATE/meta_tags.php.

Make sure that you don't have anything in the title tag of any of the other meta_tag.php files found throughout zencart (such as in the english directory) because sometimes, especially in IE, it all bunches together and you have a mess in your page title.

Hope this works for you. It worked for me!:bigups:

Re: Title bar help needed

Ok, I found the meta_tags.php file in modules...now where exactly do I put my custom title, tagline in this file? I do not see the specific text to replace like I saw in meta_tags.php in the "English" folder. Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Title bar help needed

Alrighty, after 20+ hours of racking my brain:frusty:, reading posts, typing in my custom title/tagline hundreds of times and of course uploading the changes....I finally, finally got it to work.

Nothing I read has ever mentioned this but I was including apostrophes in my tagline ie "Women's Motorcycle Gear..."

Out of sheer desperation I thought well I will take the buggers out and upload. Seriously thinking this is not going to work no one has mentioned anything about not using apostrophes in the Title or Description and I swear I have seen titles of other sites include apostrophes.

Well it worked! :shocking: Maybe I am lacking some common knowledge but I am glad it is finally done.

So if you are having trouble getting your custom title and tagline to work in your meta_tags.php check to make sure you do not include any apostrophes.

Actually, you can include apostrophes. You just have to precede them with a \

like this: Woman's

So, if you need to have apostrophes in your title, or meta tags or in any other php file, be sure to incluce the backslash \ just before the '

's

and as to my previous post, I forgot that I had modified my modules/meta_tags.php by adding some define statements for custom home page meta tags (but that's from a different thread)
