Upload directory not working

I'm experimenting with the upload directory and it doesn't seem to work.
According to the manual, all I should have to do is select the upload directory from the pulldown and the images are supposed to got here.
The problem is, eventhough I select the image from the corresponding directory on my hard drive, and select the correct directory from the pull-down, when I preview it, it shows "no picture available".
The image is located in a folder on my harddrive that has a subfolder called "Outdoor Living". This folder also exists inside the images folder on the server, so I can select it when I'm ready to upload an image.
Even if the image is already FTPd to that location, I still get the "no picture" error when updating the actual item.
How can I fix this? I have about 3000 items to go through and i'm trying to organize the site and possibly see if I can get some speed improvement.

Thanks in advance
Robert

Some further "testing" shows that if I have the images already in the "outdoor living" directory on the server and then select the option to specify the image in the corresponding box, it DOES show the image as being there. :frusty::frusty:

Re: Upload directory not working

Do you have the proper permissions set to the uploads folder?

It has to be writable before you can put images/files in there

The images folder that the sub-folders are in are all writable.
Now I just noticed that even after removing all the images from the ..\images\ folder and going to the website, not only can I see the group of images that I'm working on in the outdoor section but all the other images are still visible as well. How is that possible if I've actually removed all images from the server except for the area that I'm working on which is using the newly created folder inside the images folder?

Re: Upload directory not working

Is the sub folder uploads writable as well?

images - 777 or 0777
uploads - 777 or 0777

Are they both writable?

Yes, the permissions are correct.
I think I figured it out.
As long as the images are in the correct folder, I can just select the image name and then select the directory where it is located.
