Changing or removing order#

Hi, Is it possible to remove the Order number from appearing on the email confirmations sent to customers, as i don't need them.

Been trying to edit certain files such as orders.php checkout_process.php checkout_success.php, but nothing seems to get rid of it.

Look in the files for /email and find the variable that inserts it

If your customer has an inquiry about a certain order - how are you going to know which one?

Thanks, but i did that with the email files i thought were triggering the order number and deleted the sections necessary. But it ended up replacing ORDER # in the subject line with some PHP code instead.

Is there just a simple way of not removing it but maybe replacing ORDER # with something else or to leave it blank rather than delete it, and if so what files do i need to edit.
