Specials price not showing in Shopping cart

We have entered products, then made it a special with a lower sales price. It shows fine in all pages (listing and product page). When you add it to the shopping cart, you will see the higher regular price. No big mods except SEO and newsletter...new install. Date available and expiration date are empty in the specials page.

Any ideas?

Makes no difference. Still acts the same. The special sales price is not taken...its the original price in the shopping cart.

Can you look via phpMyAdmin at the dates for the specials table on the fields:
expires_date
specials_date_available

these should read:
0001-01-01

if no date is set to start or expire ...

When you look at the Specials in the Catalog ... Specials ... of your Admin, are they RED or GREEN on the icons?

All specials have expires_date and specials_date_available = 0001-01-01

They all have Green status in the Specials section of admin.

Thanks for helping me out with this. Seems like the Specials are set up correctly. Is there a module or function I should look at?

Seems like a person's shopping cart doesn't have the price in it (final_price is just 0.00), so its linking to the product table. Why isn't it reading the correct field. Has to be a setting somewhere. Thanks again.

Clean Install or an Upgrade?

Did you use the Admin to add all products or did you import?

Clean Install

Used admin to enter all products.

There were minor modifications done to acheive the look, but functionality should not have been compromised.

Ideas?

Ok...I just did a clean install in a subdomain...just changed the config file to the current db. And its acts the exact same way.

So its the database or a setting in the database. Anyone have ideas?

What if you do a clean install of v1.3.8a and load the demo data into a test database ...

I did a complete reinstall...specials worked.
Slowly moved over db table by table. I moved all tables over except 'products' and 'specials'...and everything works. If I add those 2...it breaks.

So its something in those 2 tables??

Looks like the "price by attributes" is causing the problem. Set that to '1' ...which I do by default since I have attributes with prices...and it doesn't take the sales price.

Why is this happening? And can I set them to 0 and still have attributes with prices?

Products that are Priced by Attribute are really Products that cannot be priced any other way ...

You have Products with a Price and then Attributes that will add to that Price ... but this is not a Product that is Priced by Attribute ...

This should explain the mess that you have on the Prices not calculating correctly ...

See if they don't all magically fix themselves if you remove that Priced by Attribute flag ...

I reset them all to 0 (through a simple mysql query) and it fixed all the products. The attribute prices still seem to be working but I'm sure we'll test it out thoroughly.

Products with Attributes are often marked mistakenly as Priced by Attribute ... until you get a hang of how it all works ...

Just wanted to send a quick post saying thank you for this topic! I just experienced the same issue & I did not realize that I didn't need to be marking every product "priced by attribute" (I sell apparel & plus sizes cost extra). I'll just make the change to products as I make specials, but this string really helped me, and quickly. Thank you!
