Custom price product

Hi Folks, very new to this but here goes.

I am setting up a cart for a non profit group. They want a donation product where the user can come to the cart and make a purchase of a product (donation) and put in any dollar value they wish.
I have seen this done on another site - earlier version - but how do i do this in the latest version ?

Any suggestions.......

This is generally done by creating a product with a price of $1 and allowing "customers" to "buy" as many as they wish. By suppressing the price and putting a $ sign in front of the quantity box, this can quite natural.

Could you explain how to suppress the price and how to put the $ in front of the quantity box?

This would be very useful to me as well. I believe the info needed is 1st: How does one add a custom product page, and then edit it? Or, more importantly: If I have a product in it's own category, is this considered a "product page"?
2nd: I know that products are assigned names like "product_id 33". Where are those product id pages stored? If I could find it, I could edit it I'm sure.

Thanks for any and all help. I am trying to make a "donation item" that a user can input their own amount. But instead of having the page display "add to cart" I want that to read "amount", with a '$' in front of the blank field.
