There was a security error when trying to login. - 1.36 Template, 1.38 Zen Cart

My company installed Zen Cart for a client, and applied a template we had bought. During testing, we realized the template we had bought said '1.36 only', but we have Zen-Cart 1.38 installed. This is a fresh install. Here's a **link to the template we are using**:

Most things work fine, but then I went to test the user account feature. I am able to create the account, place orders, etc. However, once I log out, I cannot log back in, I get this error message:
There was a security error when trying to login.

I've read the **FAQ about upgrades causing this problem**, and how updating some templates will fix the problem. I tried copy/pasting the new templates in, but no dice, same error message

So the updates were done to prevent spoofed external logins. Right now, we are working on the site using a hosts file to redirect to the site. Could this be causing it to think its a spoofed login? or is this error message because something else needs to be updated.

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

No matter who you bought it from it is a Template Monster template and they are not supported.

Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

You have a few options:

  • upgrade your template ... perhaps using the supplied v1.3.8 template as a reference
  • try a different template designed for the new version

I've read the **FAQ about upgrades causing this problem**, and how updating some templates will fix the problem. I tried copy/pasting the new templates in, but no dice, same error message

The Tutorial you mentioned includes this notice:

If you have customized template "login" files, the new security features need to be merged into your customized template files.

The following files are affected:

  • /includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/tpl_login_default.php
  • /includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/tpl_timeout_default.php

As you already have your custom Template on your computer, delete the above two files from Zen Cart, within your Custom directory for your Hosting account. Once you delete them the default files will be used which should solve the problem.

If the login page looks different than it should, you could then do a file compare and upload the edited version.

The learning is in the doing.

Re: There was a security error when trying to login. - 1.36 Template, 1.38 Zen Cart

Please disregard .. i found the problem was an id 10 t error .. when i first started changing the template i reworked the default temp rather than build a new one .. i remedied that some time ago but when the upgrade came thru i must have uploaded my old files from the default file ... so i downloaded the new version into a file and mined the new pages to my server .. works fine now ... deedeedee ...lol thanks anyway ...
