1.3.7a to 1.3.8a Upgrade Query

Hi!

I have several sites on one host and am moving them to another.
At the moment they are 1.3.7.1 on Host A - Host B has 1.3.8a (all through Fantastico!).

I am wondering what's the easiest way to transfer them across would me. I tried it on one site and a lot of the pages defaulted back to the generic text (because I hadn't used overides correctly - my bad I know!).

I'm thinking this!

1. Install 1.3.7.1 manually on Host B (New Host)
2. Backup (site and Sql) from site on Host A 1.3.7.1
3. Install/update the new 1.3.7.1 on Host B with the backup (then I have the site on Host B - albeit 1.3.7.1)
4. Install 1.3.8a onto Host B and `upgrade'!
5. Change any pages that defaulted because of my override error!
6. Install 1.3.8a on Host B via Fantastico in new directory.
7. Transfer all the files from Host B (Updated) to Host B (New Fant Install)
8. Backup and replace the Sql from the Fant install with the one I created from the original.
   If that makes any sense - I hope it does - although it'll take a while I can't think of another way to do it considering I have to transfer between hosts, and versions and also I want it to end up as a Fantastico install!

Should this work!!

I would copy all the files and the DB on "A" and move this to "B"- make a DB and using the DB backup insert/copy to the new DB. Adjust the configure.php files to reflect any differences.

Do this for each and then create your own named template (copy the files that you have changed to thi template) for each.

Now you can upgrade without losing your edits.

I suggest you do your move first. Be sure it's working satisfactory.
Then do your upgrade. Manually.
Separating the steps will allow you to rule out certain things if you run into problems later. ie: if it does work properly after the move, but you have a challenge after the upgrade, you can at least know that it wasn't the move that was the problem, etc.

I thought I should move first to the version I know is working and then upgrade and then as you say if something messes up I only have to redo so much!
