Google Adsense Issue 1.3.8

All seemed to install Ok, but when I came to set up my first ad I get this error...

Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/maxsg/public_html/store/admin/adsense_cc.php on line 132

Is this because of my cart version, or is it more to do with some permissions I need to set somewhere...

As you can guess, i'm a newbie!

I know this won't resolve your problem, but my question may have some interest...

Why do you want to run google ads on your webshop? To me it makes no sense...

1. You run the risk of having competitors advertise on your site. (Why then have a webshop in the first place). Your competitors of course will thank you for happily directing potential customers to them, rather than having these customers spend money with YOU.

2. You provide a tempting EXIT from your store before people buy anything. They are not likely to return.

I have had many years' experience of e-marketing. Don't sacrifice your business for a few pitiful farthings from Google. You want to do everything to KEEP people in your webshop. AdSense will just take them away.

If you want a referral/affiliate website, build a separate one - don't do this on your own shop.

Just so you know.....some of us don't use Zen as a cart in all cases....but rather a showcase/content management system. After years of messing around with Joomla and such I found that Zen does what I want it to.

So....Google adsense is okay for us using it this way.

I think putting Google ads on a commerce site is defeating the purpose.

... quite agree. The judgement has to be on whether you're making money or losing money. 100% certain you'll lose moeny if you're operating a webshop AND giving potential customers an easy exit to competitors.

Well, lets get back to the main topic tho.

If you still need help, which module you are using to display google ads?

I am trying to use the adsense side box, have installed it but it does not show up on the side once enabled, i have added the javascript as stated
Has anyone installed this on a 1.3.7 or a 1.3.8.

What problems are you having?
It seems to be working ok

I personally don't see a problem with adsense especially if its a relatively small advert. alot of shops have them, alot of business do advertisements. I seriously doubt an advertisement or 2 is going to hurt anyones webshop. Its what you put into the shop that counts design, layout, products..motivation...

This is how i put the small 125x125 button my website...

go to Admin >> Banner Manager

Edit or make a new Banner..(I personally edited the Sponsor Box and got rid of the Zen advert, and stayed with the SideBox-Banners group that was built in already)

then you go down to "HTML Text"

Copy & Paste the code you got from Google AdSense into the box

Then configure the sort order as needed.

This is the soultion I used, but can be used the same way for bigger adverts as well.
