Customer able to order more than qty. in stock.

I just recieved an order for two of the same item, even though I only had one in stock.
My quantity was set correctly, and now it shows me as having -1 in stock. I am not able to re-order this item, and would like to prevent this from happening in the future.
How do I disable over-ordering?

There is a setting in the configuration. I had the same issue.

Admin>config>Stock>Allow checkout

Seems like an odd default setting, but now it's fixed.
