download button not working

I have a problem with the download button taking me to an HTTP 500 Internal Server error. This is for a downloadable product. The button is showing but I get the 500 error when I click on it. Also I tried setting the redirect to false and then it takes me to a blank html page.

I am using Unix, have the Enable downloads set to TRUE and the Redirect set to TRUE. green light is showing on the attribute file. Currently the file is placed in the dowloads folder. Permissions are set to 777 on the pub and download folders.
Also I noticed on the server that the symlink folder in the pub file seems to keep the same name while the button for the link changes each time it is clicked. This is my problem do you have any ideas? Is there something about the .htaccess file that may be causing a problem. If so how would I go about editing the .htaccess file or can I just delete it/remove it?

Re: download button not working

Found the problem kind of. I switched the SSL mode off temporarily to test everything and that seems to have rectified the problem. I believe this is due to the shared SSL certificate I was using and shortly we will be switching over to a dedicated SSL certificate which should solve the problem. There have been many comments about Network Solutions hosting incompatabilties and this is one of them. I'm hoping the dedicated SSL will work but if not we may consider switching over to a different host that offers Zen Cart certification.
