Help with Creating Product Type with certain pricing scenario

I am trying to set up my products in the following way. I have a product called T-Shirt. This product comes in 3 sizes (small, medium, and large). Each size is a different price ($1, $2, and $3).
When you click on the product details page I would like it to default and show the size and price of the Medium. Then I would like it to have a dropdown box which would allow you to select the small or large. I would want the prices next to the small and large in the dropdown to be the actual prices and not + prices.
I have this close but I can't get it to use the medium as the default and it says Starting Price at and then some number. It also when I click on small or large is adding the original value plus their values.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Help with Creating Product Type with certain pricing scenario

anyone with any ideas. I know the majority of this can be accomplished because I have seen it on other sites with Zen-Cart. The only thing I am not positive about is defaulting to the middle size and displaying Starting at $$$$ and actually displaying the price for that middle size.

It looks to me like you can set a default option, but only on an individual product basis, using the attribute controller. If you select the product in question in the attribute controller, you should click the third box from left under the legend for the 'medium' option value. Someone who knows Zen cart better than me may be able to give you a more efficient method!

I haven't looked in to the price thing, but didn't see anything in the admin, so would guess you need to edit the file that deals with the options to add the price variable and option price variable together and display them as a whole.

Re: Help with Creating Product Type with certain pricing scenario

I apologize for the delay in posting a reply. I had some computer problem that I need to resolve and I am getting back to building the website now. In the meantime I purchased the instruction manual on zen cart and have read through that but it did not really shed any light on what I was trying to do. I tried following the suggestion in the post above but I was still not able to get it working. I am happy to provide any information that people need.

Here is where I am on this problem and a list of my two major issues:

Problem #1) I have a dropdown with the sizes. I have a default price for the produce itself of 11.99 (which is the cost of the medium) so that you can buy from the main_page products at this cost. When I select a size from the dropdown it is adding the 11.99 plus the cost of the other size together. It should just take that price.

Problem #2) On the main_page products when I add attributes, which are the sizes, the add to cart buttons go away and are replaced with more info. I want to be able to buy the middle size from this page.

Re: Help with Creating Product Type with certain pricing scenario

OK. I was able to resolve part of my problem. I have been able to make the prices work out correctly. I deleted the price off of the product and set it to $0. Then I set the price on the attribute and change Include in Base Price when Priced by Attributes to yes. This makes it so that my price is correct. The problem I have now is this:

  1. The main_page product still will not show the add to cart button. It shows more info instead. I want to be able to show both.

  2. The price that shows by default is the small box which is the lease expensive. I really want it to show the medium on main_page produce page. I tried using Default attribute and this made it the first in the dropdown but didn't give me results I wanted for other pages. So, I am using this field now for "Please select size" in the dropdown.

Help would be great. Thanks.

Its been a while so I thought I would give this a bump and see if anyone can help me. I have pretty much the entire site completed except for this problem. I would appreciate any help.

Thanks.
